Hi , Not being on any means tested benefits but a pensioner l am trying to find out if can claim any help with travelling costs? My Orthopedic Consultant in Scotland has referred me to a specialist unit in Devon (27 year old THR worn out, disintegrating, and wearing away pelvis) a 750 mile trip each way over 2 days involving 2 overnight stays! Anybody with any experience would love to hear from you,thank you, Tony

Hi there I have been looking into this also as I have been referred to a surgeon about an hour and a half away from my home town. There is help available if you google search NHS travel costs. Obviously I can't add a link on here. You can claim costs back but you will have to pay for it upfront though as far as I know.

I don't know Tony - I live in Holland - I would imagine that, because it is a referral, you should be reimbursed in full -

Thanks for info still investigating have filled in a form HC1 but email reply very vague, rather worried that may have to cancel any possible surgery due to this problem, best wishes
