Travel Insurance following THR

Just wondering whether I would have to declare the THR when renewing travel insurance - I'm assuming so.  Can you get insurance with a regular insurer and just declare the THR or do you have to insure with a specialist medical insurer?  Thank you

Hi Jane,

I declared it and had an admin fee for adding it but no other restrictions applied to normal cover.

This was with a regular insurer in the UK by the way,

Declare everything with insurance, otherwise they will not pay out.

Yes you must declare it, otherwise they would probably wriggle out of even a claim that had nothing to do with it.

Initially cost me £10 a year extra. On shopping around some companies added far more, so Ikept with the original one

Hi Jane

Not sure if things have changed but I had to wait 12 months after my 2nd hip replacement as were traveling overseas.  With my revision surgery last January I was able to travel nationally after 6 months.

Perhaps discuss it with a travel agent.

All the best

Hi, I declared my  THR, when I renewed my annual policy; they seemed unconcerned, and still covered me for skiing. (Though we have a joint policy specialising in medical issues, because my husband has heart stuff going on.) As others have said, definitely declare it!

Enjoy your travels!

From what I've read and been told, when someone can travel depends on the individual and the surgery done. My surgeon told me that it would be okay to take a long plane trip after about 6 months when  I was more comfortable sitting for more hours. I'm going to make sure I sit in an aisle seat so it's easier to get up and return to seat.

I just declared it with my insurer - no extra charge, but they did ask if/how many times I had dislocated.

I am in UK.

Just answer all questions truthfully, they asked if I had any unplanned hospital admissions - the answer is no, all the THR ones were planned.
