Hi ,I have copd ,asthma Bronchietis ,emphasyma, after doing the pulmary rehab course in 2008 twice a week for 8 weeks ,,I continued exersising at the same gym where the pr course is ,I attend on the same day as the course ,,,so if I have a problem the nurses are only in the next room,
i use the treadmill ,and the bike and the rower and the hand bike ,I've built up to 3klm on the treadmil ,and 3 Klm on the handbike ,the rower I'm upto 1000meters ,over the years I gave had many set backs ,ie; chest infections ,sometimes meaning hospital stays, but I always aim to get back into the gym ,that's always my goal, obviously I don't always manage to do all the above workouts ,but I always start on the treadmill ,and see if I feel ok to go onto another machine, I'm aged 69 ,my first admission to hospital was for a severe asthma attack back in 1992, that was when I also had my first chest infection, my hubby over the following years used to say ,,,,leave that ,,,I'll do it ,,you will get short of breath ,,,so I sat back and let him do it,,,,,big mistake as I found out when I was first introduced to the copd specialist nurses ( who run the PR course) it was then my life changed ,that was 2008 ,last year was a complete right off for me ,,,,due mainly nit being able to exersise due to two falls where I broke bones that had to be operated on ,,,,I got over one ,,,then another fall ,hahah , then it was found I had problems with my blood pressure hence the falls ,that's all now sorted ,so after a bad bout of flu in january this year ,,,,I got back in the gym and yesterday I did ,,2klm on the bike and 2 Klm on the treadmill ,not bad for my age, over the years I gave done the pr course several times after severe chest infecyptions ,,so I have met many people who gave done the course but they have never followed up by exersiseing ,exersise is the key to managing copd ,so in answer to your question ( apologies for going on but wanted you to know life is still good with copd )YES I USE THE TREADMILL ,I wish you well ,and happy walking ,
