Just been diagnosed with Trigeminal Neuralgia. Been put on carbamazepine. Noticed from leaflet that paracetamol is no good to cure pain of TN. Question is can I take another pain killer eg Asprin ?
I hope somebody can help I've been off work weeks with this and I look ok and no temp but nobody can understand the terrible pain I'm in.
How long do carbamazepine take to kick in ?.
sorry for so many questions I suffer anxiety and Im in a state.
Best wishes to you all.
from everything i've been told/read painkillers just don't work on TN pain, plus i'd double check any meds with your doc first (anti-seizure meds have ALOT of conflicts when it comes to medication) i knoe alot of people on this site find a warm compress helps, and i've also had arnica cream recommended to me, but i haven't actually tried it yet
I take Codapane (paracetemol and codeine) but it makes you dopey and you cant drive or anything... also Lysine ongoing- 2 tablets a day.carbamazepine takes at least 48 hrs to kick in apparently but then you have to increase it slowly until you get to the righ dose for you. Hopefully you are getting some advice from a doctor on this...
Carbamazepine worked well for me, but took sometime to be effective. Long term it may deplete your sodium. Currently use gabapentin, which some medics are reluctant to give as more expensive.
I am carbamazepine and amitripteline and I got this servere pain so bad I went to a+e they gave me dihydrocodein and it worked on that occasion
