Yea the Marijuana doesn't seem to be working. I have my dad scheduled to see the neurologist next month.
hi!I've had trigeminal neuralgia type2(my pain is constantly there that means),I take 4 different pain killers, amitriptyilin plus gabapentin, since my 40th birthday, don't give up so quick I thought I woz the only 1 who wud rather give birth again lol!u do get used 2 the tablets u must take,I wear a hat all the time,I'm agoraphobic & all ov this is coz I dare not go out just in case,I'm so sorry u have this bludy crap affliction,I really no ow u feel! em x
The only answer I have is forget the drugs. I see neurologists as drug pushers. Find the TN surgeon in your area and do a surgery. They are low key surgeries and can last a long time without drugs. Get your life back!
Hi Laura hope you have found success with treatment, I had to have surgery and that was ten years ago. The surgery was a success for the pain in my face but the surgical site remained tender and felt charged with electricity very painful and still does to this day. Sadly on pain meds, what's wo is as of April 2014 the trigeminal neuralgia has returned. Now on Sonisamide and it is working well.
Hi, I have just been told I have trigeminal neuralgial. Does anyone have some tips to cure the pain? I am on gabapentin 3x a day which hasn't quite kicked in. The pain is always worse in the evening when I am relaxed. Have constantly got a hot water bottle on my face does anyone seem to be in more pain in the evenings? If so what do you do!?
Hi Laura. You may be able to stop or lesson the pain by standing straight up',arms down and serious face still. I usually get attacks when getting into bed, Keep face very still. Never miss a tablet .T N will surely make you pay
i've said this before to many people, its alright saying 'go get an op' yeah, IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY FOR IT.
Hi Laura I'm sorry you're suffering I know this pain well. I did have the surgery at Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles at the age of 46 and did well except for the surgery site for whatever reason I had tenderness and electric like shooting pain and still do 10 years after the worst thing is surgery does not last forever like I thought TN returned 10 yrs nearly to the date so I am on narcotics and Sonisamide (a seizure medication) that stops the facial pain in its tracks the narcotics help with the pain at the surgery site. The surgery was like a miracle to me. The rest is just something I have had to live with.
Hi Hannah the meds your taking are the norm and usually the Dr. builds up the dose I did this also but I was so drunk from the increase I couldn't handle it so surgery was my final option. I had episodes of striking electrical pain up to 100-150 times a day made no difference time of day or what I was doing also my face twitched with every episode. If your meds do not work you may need surgery. Sadly this does not go away😞 on its own. Peace
Hello. Sorry to hear about your dad. Has the vaporized MMJ helped? I would appreciate any feedback/input. THank you
So happy to see your post. My daughter was just diagnosed with TN yesterday and is in constant pain. She lives just outside Portland, OR; please tell me which doctor you are seeing so we can get some help with this!
Find Dr. Kim Burchiel at OHSU. He is the guy to go to. Up until I found him I suffered on drugs that didn't work. He will continue to work with me if I have problems or it comes back which it often does. In order to get in I had to have a reference from my regular doc. But that was easy.
Hi Laura .I may have some way that may help.At least they work for me.When cheek pain cuts in hold your breath as long as you can while keeping a serious face.Take a really big breath. For me this works in 12 secs approx. counting in your head. ALso remove all electrical clocks and phones and radios on bedside tables.Set them up away in a corner nowhere near your head.Hope this helps.
I too suffer this since last May and I'd like the MVD op rather than years of unnecessary pain. Do you know anyone who's had this procedure? Anyone had the op?
You must get your doctor to refer you to the pain clinic. None of the meds work.
God bless the UK NHS. My Doctors against the op but I am going for it.
Hannah, you also can use additional pain relief like panadol or if it's really bad a strong painkiller and off to bed. You can try holding your breath .Stand really still and no talking. This works for me most times.
Failing that a stiff brandy. Oh yes it works.
After 30years of suffering, I have found out that an effective remedy for TN is just two pills of anti varicose vein tablets twice a day for two days.
Use alternative herbal tablets which cause minimum side effects
Oh I know how you feel but don't despare your Doctor Will help you through and pain clinic. The tablets make you feel bad at first and it's fine just persevere.
