I have suffred from this condition for many years but it is well controlled by Tegretol apart from brief periods when the pain is more intense. I seem to developing a buzzing noise in my ear. Is this a common thing among longtime sufferes, please.
Arun
I too have had a ringing/buzzing in my ears for around 6 or 7 months. I was on carbamazapine a couple of years ago originally to help with TN but came off that due to a reaction I had from it, so not sure I'd attribute it to that.
I ended up having an operation which I feel was responsible for the tinnitus, although my consultant at the time said it wasn't because of the operation.
Interesting to hear someone else has the same issue though...
I've had TN for a couple of years now which is controlled with Tegretol (thank God)
I too have this ringing/buzzing in my left ear now and have often wondered if it is connected with the TN - if you're suffering with it too, it seems very likely that it is. I wonder if this is a common side effect - anyone else have it?

Hi arun67789
When I'm having an attack, the whole area of my left ear and jaw feels uncomfortable and after a particularly acute bout, the whole area remains numb and highly sensitive.During the periods of remission, I experience no symptoms at all. I've had TN for about 2 years, so I'm a comparative novice! Colin
Hi Arun,
I've been a sufferer of TN for over 20yrs on and off. As I've always suffered with my ears anyway I didn't relate it to TN whenever I had a bout, but I do believe any form of buzzing or ringing in the ears etc is one of the side effects that some sufferers can have. I checked on one site that did say Tegretol can cause this. It may be worth it to ask your GP to try you on a different drug. I know Tegretol is the best but if a different drug doesn't work for your TN you can always go back to Tegretol.
Let us know how you get on.
regards
Gloriana
