Trouble self catheterizing for about 3 weeks

I’ve had trouble inserting my catheters for about 3 weeks. I contacted my urologist and he booked me for a month from now. Apparently pissing is optional. I also asked him to renew my Cipro as I like to have it on hand for UTIs, which I gave myself as a result of this issue. He refused and told me to see my GP, which I don’t have. Yes, he was always an arrogant penis but now he’s arrogant and useless.

This is not new, but usually only lasts for one or two insertions. I had a Cystoscopy less than a year ago to investigate, but they said I was fine. My penis disagrees.

Usually when this happens if I can dribble a bit, it opens things up, but not this time. I also took some Cialis, as it usually helps, but nope. I’m already on Alfuzosin and started Dutasteride for my hair about two weeks after this happened. My prostate feels fine, the blockage is before the prostate.

I went to the clinic to get my antibiotics renewed, talk about the catheter issues and get a referral for a new urologist. The doctor spent 10 minutes arguing about the choice of antibiotics, I had the bottle with me. I’ve been taking them for 20 years, so go argue with the Urologist(s). He didn’t discuss the catheter issues and refused my request for a referral. He asked who my GP was; I thought he was or why did I fill out the roster papers a few weeks ago. Also looking for a GP apparently.

I did find something that works though, a hot bath. The first time I tried it, the piss started flowing out of me despite my Atonic bladder. I know it was not too hygienic, but my bladder didn’t care. I just purchased a female heating pad for cramps, but I’m not sure it will be effective or where to place it. I’m assuming below the belly button, but I’m not sure.

I’m also looking at what supplements I can take to relax the Urethra, but if Cialis doesn’t help, I don’t think Nitrous Oxide will either.

I’m going to go to the ER to see about getting a Foley catheter inserted, until they figure this out. The problem is that they don’t have bathtubs in the waiting room and the wait times can be 14 hours.

Any bright ideas?

How long have you been doing self catherization ? What catheter are you using? More specificcally : Name? Size? Part number? I have been doing self catherization for about 10 years with relative success so I may be able to help. Hank

Vapro 72144, Fr 14, Hollister Hydrophillic catheter

I know you’re trying to help, but you sound like the Walk-in doctor I had today. I went to request a abdominal ultrasound to see what’s putting pressure on the Urethra.

I’ve been self catheterizing for at least three years, so it’s not a catheter issue, it’s a Urethra issue.

Thanks for taking the time to offer your help.

Update:

My bloodwork came back and my TSH was mildly high. I’ve had subclinical hypothyroidism forever, but no doctor would ever treat it.

But I’ve never had extreme low blood pressure, feeling cold, urination issues and crappy sleep at the same time. The last two are somewhat more prevalent. Now I just need the doctor to connect the dots.

….it’s not a catheter issue, it’s a Urethra issue….

It took me about 3 years of cathing to find out my difficulty and bleeding problems: I was using too stiff catheters. My problems went away after I switched to a softer one.

I have had 10 years of wonderful learning from this forum. From my experience, you have either a false passage or urethral stricture. Each could be caused by catherization. Hank
