I am exhausted I wake up every morning tired. That's if I can sleep at all. I constantly misplace things. I am on gabapentin but it doesn't seem to help..... Any advice?
Hi manda1030 sleep is a very big problem when you have fibro.try a warm bath before bed milky drink make sure your room isnt too hot. its finding what works for you, as what works for 1 person doesnt for another. everything is trial error with fibro if gabpentin isnt working go back to your gp, tell them it isnt working get them to try you with something else. take care
I was on Gabapentin and lost my hair. I went through all the other medications for fibromyalgia now on Cymbalta (Duloxetine) Which on 60mg at night is working so far.
My Dr reduced it to 30mg because of a certain side effect I got but I have had to go back up to 60mg. And have not been able to see my Gp for 3 weeks as he was on holiday I now have an appointment booked with him on Thursday at 7.20pm.
Hi Manda
I have not been having much sleep over the past 20yrs. Hopefully one day I will be able to report back of having a good night sleep. Feel tired all the time. I am taking herbal remedies and hope this will aid in me getting sleep soon. I have also started to listen to meditation before going to sleep, it does help me nod off but the pains in my hands soon disturb the sleep.
Hope you find the answers and advice and support soon on this forum. Take care and wishing you a good night sleep. Take care xx
Hi Kaz, thank you so much for your advice I will give them a try! Best wishes to you!
I have wondered about Cymbalta I am sorry about your hair. I also have RA and lost a lot of hair on Methotrexate. Frustrating medication doesn't work the same for all of us. Wishing you the best.
Hi Bee, yeah I am the same way worn out all the time up for days then i will sleep a whole day at a time. Which is bad I am a mom I have responsibilities to my son. Night time is the roughest time I wonder why? I wish you a lifetime of restfulness and feeling good! Take care!
Hi Manda; yes Sleep Deprivation is Hard and continuous tiredness is what brings us all down...........as I, too have some nights of feeling as if I have only been "half asleep all night" makes me feel as you do....so I've been searching the web for others' ideas/inputs.....yesterday i went into "Living With A Hidden Disability", and quite a few inputs of others with same issues......one lady in Particular has trialed Many meds/natural treatments, and when i read her experiences of use of Melatonin (a particular brand/form) it gave me some ideas/hope, and am going to trial same.....also, what dosage of Gabapentin do you take, as this is one of my much needed meds, along with Amitriptylline (800mgms of Gabapentin and 25 - 50 mgms of Amitriptylline).....this usually holds me, until I have a week (like this last one of being "full on", and today is starting to catch up with the exhaustion.....hubby had 2 surgeries, due to an accident at work).......so maybe if not taking enough, even an increase maybe what you need, taking at night????.....for you/anyone wanting some more advice/info try going into the site mentioned and you may find what you are looking for, too???..............good luck, Bron
I have tried melitonin I like it and chamomile, valurine root also passion flower. I am on 900 mgs a day of gabapentin. I am sorry to hear about your husband I hope he feels better soon.I wish you well health and rest as well. Ty for your advice!😊
Thankyou manda for your lovely reply.........and do you think it is worth my trialling Melatonin (this is also something that I would like 2 of my children to trial as well, as both of them "Do Not Stop/Sleep Properly.....they actually continue to work in their sleep.....one is a Lawyer and her husband says she talks re her work All Night, and so does the other...he too has terrible sleep issues and does the same....just can't Switch off).....as for hubby, yes he is very Prone to Work Accidents....has had many over the years, so I say, when he has another bad accident, it is someone "telling him to have a Break" (however, he works in Civil Construction where accidents occur All the time)....but he will get there, and have a nice Long Holiday (probably won't get back to work before Christmas)??.............anyway after that ramble, thanks
Back to your Gabapentin, if 900 is not working/helping, perhaps you may need to trial something else?? Is your pain only the muscular, or other pains as well, for as like others, if varying, it may become "treat each symptom" separately.....?? Bron
Bronwyn, Yes Melitonin is wonderful I give it too my son every night for the past 5 years he is 10 and has sleeping problems. TY so much for your advice I appreciate it. My hubby also does construction so I understand the trials that go along with that. I wish you both the best. If you try the melitonin let me know how it works for you. it comes in 2mg, 5mg, and 10mg I would start your kids on a lower dose but I and my son have had goos results with it.
another night no sleep night 4...... I have to get up everymorning by nine and home school I sure hope this sleeplessness goes away soon. thank you all for your kind advice...:-)
will do, thanks............Bron
your welcome looks like you have been on here along time I appreciate you taking your time to talk with me. Have a great day!
I have a question for Bron and manda what is melitonin and is it herbal or on prescription and where would I get it from and how much?
Jannette
Hi Manda
It's very difficult, especially if going to work, kids and house chores too. If anyone has answers to a good night sleep I would welcome it.
By midday my eyes are closing and the tiredness takes over, but being strong and positive as I too have other responsibilites of family, one just carries on. One day sleep will be a gift to us all and Fibro a thing of the past. We live in hope......
Take care and gentle hugs to you.... xx
Are we lost sisters? I misplace everything and have forever. I am on Lyrica as I had a bad reaction to gabapentin , but it isn't working. PAIN constant and now I have side effects from the LYRICA. I am suppose to be going on suboxone to get me of Lyrica and pain. I was able to sleep great for years 2 benadryls before bed and out until the alarm. then doctor put me on ambien put me to sleep but in my sleep I was cleaning my kitchen ,folding socks. My husband would return me to bed. Now my GP put me on something it takes 2 usually to put me out but now I am on a cpcp machine so that is some adjustment.
If you are in the states you can get it at dollar general, Walmart, Walgreen's and on line it is not very expensive. It occurs naturally in the body. From what I have studied. I give it even to my 11 years old. It helps to normalize your sleep cycle naturally.
Oh I am sorry I have heard of that happening. There are many natural sleep aides that help. As mentioned earlier melitonin is a good one. Some herbal ones are Valirine Root, Camomile and passion flower they help promote calmness and even come in teas. I hope this helps. But make sure you ask your Dr if Valerine and Passionflower are safe for you to take with your meds. Best of luck to you.
Hi Kipper; it is a hormone normally made in the brain, but if not enough we may need to supplement same...........it's uses is for enabling the Cicadian Rhythm, which scientists/researchers show some Fibro patients have a lack/depletion of, hence we do not get the "restorative sleep" that is so essential to waking up refreshed.........as to the purchase of same, I think it can be bought from chemist/pharmacist here in Australia (this I will be looking into), and should not need a prescription, but advice from a phamacist to see how it will enteract with our other meds......Bron
