I have been having a toxic reaction to 150 mg. I have been on it for a little over two years and I need to come off. The drug has given me a compulsion to drink and smoke cigarettes to sedate myself from the serotonin high. I get the shakes and want to self medicate. Also gained 30 pounds. Never had a weight problem before.
Hi Melinda
It's difficult to understand that after 2 years you are now getting reactions. Did you just up the dose to 150mg? I have been on Sertraline since November and my dose was upped to 150mg 2 weeks ago. Yesterday I decided to come off of it. I get the toxic feeling too. Just doesn't feel right. I'm at the bar right now having a beer to calm down. Go with your gut. You know what's right. Of course with your docs compliance. 150 works for some but not for all. Good luck
I didn't start out at 150… But I have been trying to figure out for the last six months to a year why I'm having a compulsion to drink more than usual and smoke cigarettes? Are used to only smoked two or three times a year sometimes with drinking. My name is Susie by the way. Melinda Sue from the south back to it… I just thought it was me and all I'm going through as I'm losing my parents and experienced the death of my brother. I was having heart palpitations insomnia and panic attacks.
Let me clarify this… In my thinking… You should only be on this drug until you clear your crisis. This is not a drug to stay on for years and years and years. I wish she had told me you need to go off of it as soon as possible? But anyway… I finally figured it out. I have had thyroid issues and apparently my thyroid is normal now on medication. I've never been on anything such as an antidepressant before in my life until the last few years.
