Tsh of 7.5

I have an underactive thyroid and have felt later that my medication isn't enough and the symptoms are back so asked for my thyroid bloods to be taken, results back today is that my tsh is 7.5 but doctor says I don't need any further action, surely this is too high?

Yes it’s too high. Should not be above 4. Try to get referred to an endocrinologist or change doctors!

Yes, Change doc !!!

TSH of 7.5 is too high.

Thyroid medication takes three months to fully level out. Some doctors adjust neducation more frequently.

You should be getting some relief if the medication is working.

I would caution that typically the first medication prescribed is levothyroxin. Unfortunately thus medication  doesn’t work for everyone. If you aren’t getting some relief, or are having side effects. Consider alternatives such as NDTs.

Also, please read about side effects of this medication, as they range from halitosis to liver cancer. No kidding. Check out the posts in the levothyroxin group.

A good endocrinologist should be able to help you out. Unfortunately really good endos are hard to find, so you may have to try a few.

I've been on my medication 2years now, just feel as I'm back how I felt then and I'm taking my medication

Two years and back where you started? Sadly this is typical. We’re told the meds work. We’re told to wait, to take time to get the dose right. I was over two years on levothyroxin and worse off for it. None of the prescription meds are bioidentical, so they don’t work.

Try working with a holistic practitioner.
