I hope all are well I have not posted anything for a while and it is 2 am can’t sleep so I was going through some of my files and I read something that I think may be very interesting to some of the men on here.
I started to read this because this trial ( It was done in 2013 ) came up because there are many men now a days getting BPH earlier then before. Urologist are seeing men in there 30’s & 40’s instead of 50’s & 60’s
For younger men and some older men sexual function and retro ejaculation is a problem. The only thing the doctor would offer was a Turp which the young men would say no way. At 30 you don’t want to lost any sexual function. So they try something different.
A Turp can be used for anything like LUTS, cyst near the bladder neck, stones or BOO. Being that a Turp remains the gold standard but retro ejaculation and other sexual side effects was associated with . They needed to evaluate the possibility of obtaining a Prostatic Disobstruction without affecting the patient’s sexual function or retro ejaculation.
This study had 18 men in it main age was 41 and the average prostate was 36 ml. The procedure took 22 minutes. What they did was a resection of the bladder neck at 6 o’clock followed by a resection at the 12 o’clock position. They were checked at 6 month’s and 1 year.
Results: No statistical differences were reported in IIER and MSHQ domains at baseline and 1 year. Qmax increased from 7.4 preoperatively to 23.6 at 1 year follow up.
Conclusion: In young and selected patients with prostatic obstruction it is possible to perform this mini surgery. They are calling it a Mini Turp but I feeling it is more like a BNI because the prostate is not touched. It is effective and safe and will not affect sexual functions particularly retro ejaculation.
Now like I have been telling everyone for years. Research anything you are thinking of doing. Get a second opinion and make a list of the pros and cons of each procedure.What you are looking for and what are your concerns. When you see the doctor asked question and make sure you get the answers If he runs you through in 10 minutes he’s not worth your time. Find another doctor.
I know this is for smaller prostate but it may help for a first procedure before you have your prostate worked on.
