hello all, im new here but have been reading your posts for a month now, I dont know what to say, I had turp on May 6th, was in hospital overnight, they took catheter out in hospital, urinated very little was bloody, they sent me home, 4 hours later i could not urinate, went to emergency room and again a catheter was placed, went home called my urologist had me come in a few days later, took catheter out checked my bladder said I was good, was urinating great for about a month, then woke up one morning to go and bam, drips of blood and totally blocked, scared the heck out of me, went back to emergency room, passed out when I was there due to the pain of not urinating, they got a catheter in me again, this time hooked me up to irrigation, and urolgist set up another surgery to clean me out of blood clots, showed on a mri that i had alot, surgery good, stayed in hospital another day with catheter, went home urine cleared up, went back to urologist and he removed and checked my flow, all was great for 2 weeks, now this morning passed a big clot and blood, called urologist said ad long as im urinating and it cleared up i should be ok, so all day was clear up until a few hours ago, just passed another clot, I am do upset right now, i need to get back to work, anybody have any insight or can project me some hope, thank you for reading....
You will probably keep passing clots for 2/3 months, smaller in size and stickiness as times goes on, before it completely stops.

What was your prostrate size before surgery? Sounds like it was quite big.
actually urologist told me it wasn't that big, I forget to mention I also had a large bladder stone removed at the same time
I hate to ask this but why did you have the Turp done in the first place if the prostate was not that big. You could have had the stone removed without them touching your prostate. You would not be going through this problem now.
The only reason they do it so it is easier for them. They could have just moved it on the side and taking the stone out

urologist said its why i got the bladder stone and that he would just open up a bit more, I do recall my urine stream getting less before the stone, in any case , I just want to get through this
That is not always true. It can happen but you had a smaller prostate. You should have had the stone removed and go from there you would have had less problem. I hope he did not touch any of the never bundles and of course you will end up with retro.
I was told this by my Urologist that they do not have to remove any of the prostate.
I wonder where the stone was. It may have been at the entrance of the bladder and that what was blocking the urethra.

Have you had a median lope? If so some times it is difficult to remove the stone if median lope is closing the sight and the road. so they cut the prostate and remove the stone.
Sorry to hear that you are having so many issues after your turp! Hang in there! Did your urologist offer CIC (self-catheterization) as an option so you maybe can avoid a trip to the ER again? Also, most importantly, you should be drinking a lot of water during the day to help flush out blood and other bits of stuff post-turp during your recovery. Could it be that you typically don't drink much water which may have triggered the stones? I was told that blood will collect overnight and without proper hydration, it will clot and get you in trouble if not flushed out. I am still passing bits of scab and sometimes a little blood even though it's almost 6 months post-turp. (I have a very large prostate so it may be different given your small prostate)

yeah trying to drink alot of water, ive been urinating blood free for over 24 hour's now, urination sometimes slow and other times like a horse, some burning in my bladder but just trying to take it easy, is quite frustrating, my urologist said to just monitor it and it should clear up, im hoping, thanks for your response
Oh and by the way so weird when passing a clot its like shooting a bullet, lol
I'm surprised that after 6 months, I'm still passing little bits of clot now and then. I've noticed that some days I have discomfort when starting to urinate, especially when I don't have that much pressure from the bladder and/or when I've been sitting for many hours at a time doing my job. I can't say that I pee "like a racehorse". I am happy with the flow that empties my bladder to satisfaction. It's much better than the past when I went for 4.5 months completely blocked due to some "flap" or "collapse floor of the median lobe" thing, 3 emergency Foley catheters, two trips to the ER, etc. Ugh.
It is weird! I find it sort of disgusting, actually, to see that bit of clot/tissue/scab sinking to the bottom of the toilet bowl. That's why I drink water all day to keep things flushed out and also prove to myself that everything is still working. :-)
i hear ya, my flow is kind of erratic, sometimes strong sometimes ok, not saying its bad, is better than before surgery thats for sure, im a little sore right now its more of a burning letting me know i have to urinate, urine still clear though, this is some scary shit sometimes I won't lie!!!
yes i have also been trying to drink more water as well
Ok here's an update, have not passed anymore clots, urine has been the best its been in a long time, urination good, have been uncomfortable mostly at night with this weird internal burning by my bladder and some cramping, my urologist set up an ultrasound in which i had today, the technician said everything looked good and i shouldn't worry, I have had alot of fear around urinating due to getting blocked up twice, i did pass some debris today wasn't bloody or anything so not sure I'm just trying to take it one day at a time....
