Any advice at all would be appreciated. So in haste decided to drive down to South of France, all good until the journey home and the traffic, spent two solid days either driving or sitting as a passenger...now I am so stiff can barely walk is this normal? It is now day three.
The swelling at the scar area is the the same size as my hand spread out, vast in a word, and my hip hurts, but I can't have damaged it I don't think....I am eight months post op and didn't expect to still have issues like this, despite being perhaps a little over ambitious in hindsight, but I honestly thought I would be fine! What can I do to get better? I have tried resting, but get stiffer, a warm bath - nothing - really struggling to do very much and it is the summer holidays and little ones are at home!! Eeeek!!! My left hip is completely ruined as well - I am walking like a heavily pregnant woman!
Thanks everyone and big hugs all!
Oh Rose - how discouraging us that!?
I really don't like the sound of the swelling at your incision and encourage you to see your GP to ensure there is no infection.
At the very least, it sounds as your muscles, etc were not enamoured with all that sitting on your way home. I would have rested up too with periodic exercise and walks to (gently) stretch tissues out - mixed wit feet eleaved and cold packs near the swelling (you know the drill).
Do check in with your doc though to ensure nothing serious is going on.
With big hugs,
L
Hey Rose
Oh I can really sympathise, I am exactly the same!
I have spent all my time bulding up the strength in my thighs but I am still very stiff. The stiffness is worse if I have spent too long sitting. Sitting in a car or chair for too long is the worst. I am just not as nimble or as flexible as I used to be. But I try not to to get too troubled by it. I am back cycling and I am now fitter than I ever was but I do feel as though I have a build up of scar tissue around my hip and my muscles need stretching now.
I am 6 months post op and now I am past worrying about disslocation and I am thinking about going to yoga or pilates to improve my flexibility and even thinking about getting some deep tissue massage to break down that scar tissue and free up my hip.
Although I am strong I would quite like to get my hips back in action. Maybe some dancing classes!
Getting down and up off the floor is an effort and maybe I will not get back to that 100%.
I have lost a bit of flesh from my left hip and maybe I wont get that back completely, I think that those small muscles have been severed and the "fine tuning" is gone. But my major muscles are compensating and doing a pretty good job.
My advice is to keep the strength up but consider stretching and lengthening excercises to improve flexibility. And get to a spa for a good massage.
Good luck I know how hard it is especially having to see to little ones! All that up and down off the floor!
You are doing great!
Big hug from me!
Alison xx
What a great post! I think I will follow your prescription too! Thank you.

Hi sweetheart,
SO sorry to hear this - I hope that you feel better today -
don't beat yourself up okay ? sitting in a car for 2 days (I am sure with plenty of breaks) is challenging to begin with - and also, your other hip is not too great right? could be that the new hip might have been a bit overburdend while sitting - it happens without you realizing it ---
can you stretch your body when laying on your bed ? or standing up straight and try to reach the ceiling or something - maybe a gentle massage might help (oh, I would love to have one myself) -
was it a family outing? or just the 2 of you ?
Yeah, left hip bad is not helping you at the moment -
Sorry for asking (again) but have you seen your OS for a date yet?
big warm hug and remember to be gentle with yourself .. you are doing great !! you know that right ... beyond expectations!

Hi Rose, poor you, you must feel so downhearted. Have you tried back to basics & icing the area? X
