Two things that helped me deal with insommnia...

Hi I've been suffering from insomnia for over 7 years progressively getting worse over the past 2/3 year up until August this year, (a few months ago). Sleeping 1/2 hours a night wasn't uncommon for me, sometimes not even getting to sleep at all- this could go on for days at a time. Getting through each day was tough and life was a continuous uphill struggle.

I visited in the doctors regularly over the past few years. In that time I tried CBT and amitriptyline sleeping pills, (these worked initially but I soon got tolerant to them).

Following my doctors advice I tried self-hypnotherapy, now this really did help, I used relaxing audios I found on the net. It helped cleared your mind and any anxiety. I would listen from half hour to and hour and for the most part I would fall asleep. I would wake up in the middle of the night and listen to the audio again to get me to sleep. I wasn't getting a full nights sleep as I would still spend time listening to the audio but found it far less irritating than just laying there.

I then read on the net that the contraceptive pill has been linked to insomnia. So as I was up for trying anything I came of my pill. Within 2/3 weeks my sleeping had noticeably improved. I was still taking a while to get to sleep and getting up very early but I was sleeping like a normal person again! Now 2 months on I am sleeping every night around 7/8 hours and feel refrested. I can't even express how pleased I and how my life has improved, I just hope this continues...!!

This shows the power of proper relaxation and the power of audio tapes, and for me meditation is, in getting to sleep, then developing a proper sleep and sleeping pattern!!

Agreed! I now try to meditate every morning. I love the way it brings calmness to the busy brain. It help with anxiety- a key link to sleep problems.

Yes Mel, I have to say I need to take the next step and establish a routine of some kind.
