Two weeks on from my last drink

Hi all, Not been on here much this last week due to being back at work and so busy.

I hope you are all doing ok on all of your journeys?!

So nearly two weeks have passed since my last drink and nearly one week after my home detox. I am feeling positive and much better in myself, in both mood and physically. It actually feels like it was much longer ago.

I have my appointment on Friday with the Alcohol community team which i have kept as i would like to know more about the routes i can take to help with cravings and stress management, so i can avoid turning to alcohol when im struggling with my depression and crappy life events.

I have noticed my depression is already improving....(surprise surprise....)

Quick question for those that have stopped drinking... I have a massive sweet tooth now and all i think about is food....Has anyone else felt like this? I have to try and get this under control as i will end up the size of a bus if i carry on eating like this haha. I am aware that some people say your body craves the sugar that the alcohol used to give you. ( I drank mainly Wine)

Also, although i thought i smoked alot whilst drinking i actually seem to be smoking more!! I honestly thought this would cut down without drinking.

Anyway, I hope you all are bearing up ok and i apologise for not being in touch so much this week. I shall try and have a catch up through the posts.

Shelley

yes food!! yes cakes and cholate etc when you stop drinking and that is normal but yes the weight might become a problem...Great that you are trying to hard to stop and several weeks already!! Yes! regards Robin.

Yep. That's par for the course from what I've read. I've been leaning into the sweets since I cut down, for sure.

Yes, as you have already said, your body will replace alcohol with sweets and it is actually harder for some people to kick, than alcohol is.

Google sugar addiction, you will be surprised. Putting on weight and upping your sugar intake, will push you into the pre-diabetic zone.

If that happens, get your GP to run an HbA1c test.

Good to hear you are doing well, Shelley smile

Thank you to you all. I certainly have to get the eating under control, always been self conscious before so have to get on top it. To be honest though, if it means a few extra pounds but sober I'll take them!!

Hi Shelley. I was the same and did put on weight when I stopped and always and still crave cakes and cheese....slightly better control of my weigth by now....best of luck and great for your long period (already) of not drinking....Robin

Paul I just wanted to ask your advice because I've been detoxing on Librium and I am now on my 5th day. I drink lemon water everyday to try to help my liver but does this conflict with my Librium? Please any advice would be amazing

Lemon water isn't contra-indicated while taking Librium and I have not heard of any problems with it. You must be on smaller doses by this point. I hope it's been comfortable for you smile

Thank you. Things have definitely helped like your advice.

Glad to hear that, I71207 smile
