Two weeks Post OP

I can't believe it's been 2 weeks since my R THR.  Let me tell you it has been an emotional rollercoaster.  I had issues with low BP which caused me to have dizziness, I don't sleep well, I'm not eating much, I have lots of fluid, and my leg is so swollen that I can't wear my normal pants.  I've had good days and bad days.  This past Monday, I had my PO appointment with my doctor.  He said my hip looks great, and he told me I can start OPPT.  Today was the last vist with the Home PT.  I start OP PT tomorrow.

My therapist told me today that I have really progressed well.  She told me that the good and bad days will happen, I will still continue to have emotional days, the dizziness will continue because of the BP, I will still have some loss of appetite, and I will still have the swelling and fluid.  However, she told me that it well all get better.  She said that I need to focus on good, and know that it will all go away and I will get back to normal.

I know that it is difficult for me to see the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, but I have to try.  I know I will have emotional days.  I know it is a rough ride, but I know I can do it because of all of you on this disscusion board.  You have all showed me it can be done. So, thank you all for sharing and caring.

Hi...im only a week post op and you sound very similar to me...in the hospital before discharge i was experiencing low blood pressure so i had to stay in the hospital one extra night just so they can montior me...the pills they gave me was making my BP dropped below 100 and I as well had dizziness every time i sat up or stood up...they said the low BP was caused from the narcotics and I havent had much of an appetite either because i also felt nausous which i just assumed was from feeling dizzy...but ever since the doctor prescribed anti nausea medicine...i eat a little more. Still not a complete serving. Which is a good thing to me because with the amount of swelling my leg has...imagine me eating and gaining weight and to have this amount of swelling..i wouldnt fit into my clothes. Stay positive..this is a long road of us..atleast you are one week ahead of me. The light at the end of tunnel is coming soon

Hello,  I feel the same way as you do about gaining the weight.  It's very emotional.  I've learned that I should not get on the scale because right not the scale is not my friend because of all the fluid.  I typically have Low BP, so the pain meds was dropping it as low as in the 60's.  I have decrease the pain meds a bit this week, so for the first time today, my BP was normal.   You stay positive as well, and please let me know how your progression is going.

Your doing all the work and deserve so many Kudos for working your way theu THR. It will level out in a few more weeks. Your making great progress. It is all of the Hippies who are proud of you!😊

Thank you!  We are here together supporting each other.

Wonderful to have you as a friend and someone who get the illness and pain. We can make mtns out of mole hill and have fun doing it.

im up in the NW snow and ice has shut down the city.

Mcar hasn't learned to ski ⛷yet so missy my Pre Op appt. tomarrow.

Where at in the NW?  I live in SE Virginia.  So, far all we have had is cold weather.  So, many people have been hit with the bad weather.  I'm thankful that we are only dealing with the cold weather.  Be safe!

Near Vancouver . We at pre near the coast. Today we have snow in the mtns and on the beach. This is do to El NINA returning with a vengeance.

we have really wet and heavy snow. It topples trees and landslides have started.

its beter to never go out in this ice  I can not trust the other guy on the road.

We have lots of hill over passes up hil and so many end up sliding backwards down the hill like bumper cars.

im staying home until it is safe to go out. At least a week .Just hope we don't loose power.

SE Virginia beautiful place to live.  Cold weather ther too seen on the news.

Stay cozy oozy and safe.⛸☃I may build a snowman! ☃

You stay safe and warm.

You are so very welcome!

Now much longer and you will become an old hippie...hahaha

hi caroline,  you are welcome and thank you ... it works both ways, all ways, actually --wonderful responses and what a great PT you have ..THR is major surgery and affects some of us on a deep level - not only physically, but also emotionally and spiritually .. our body is mourning the part that was removed - healing from the trauma and accepting the new hardware ...be gentle with yourself and accept that this is what it is right now ...come here anytime you want okay - big warm hug renee

Good morning all! I am 9 werks post op today! Live on IL/WI border on Lake Michigan. We got 8 in of snow last week and getting 10 more tomorrow - wind chill -25 today! I say all that to say be thankful you're not here! LOL I too have had a roller coaster ride with recovery. I want to hit the fast forward button but there isn't one!! It's slow going wins the race. We are all a fast paced society and want to take a pill and get better yesterday - including me! THIS JUST DOESN'T HAPPEN WITH THR! Finally at week 9 did I tell my therapist...I think of other things before I think about my hip. I've had LOTS of major surgeries and this by far has been the most challenging for me. It just takes time, patience and lots and lots of rest. Too much exercise too fast can set you back. Give yourself time to heal and be good to yourself. You have ONE chance to get the best recovery you can get....do it slowly! Love yourself and enjoy the Christmas season!

LOL!

Hello Renee,  A big hug back to you!  We never can have to many hugs.  It's funny, but your are so right, our body is morning.  I never really that about it like that, but it's so true.

Have a wonderful day, and Merry Christmas!

Good morning Barb,  OMG! You stay warm and safe.  I live SE Virginia, and we are having cold weather, but now snow.  Everyone on here if you are having the bad weather please stay safe and keep warm.

You are so right about the fast forward button.  I had my first OP therapy appointment today, and it went will.  She told me that it takes time to heal.  We all have to take baby steps sand not over do it so, we don't re-injure.

Hello barb,

i saw the snow storm on the news and everyone was layerd up to the max. Walking was really the only mode of getting thru any place.

It looked miserable.

here in the NW we also had a horrible ice storm shut down the  1/4 of the state, schools airports etc. This is El Nina coming back with a blast.

Thr is a rollercoaster ride so many things to keep track of and such a difficult surgery to adjust to. Our bodies go thru so much.

I had two THR and going in for revision soon. I drank protien shakes shakes always made me feel better. My surgeon said our bodies need 2200 calories a day to heel. So eat well and protein shakes replenishes vit minerals that our biopsies need for heeling.

❤️Hope you have a good day. Take it slow and stay warm and safe!😊

Back at ya! I have no plans to drive in a the storm, and be included in the bimpers cars already on the road. It's impossible to drive on ice and we have that nasty black ice too!
