Wondering if it is safe for my 2 year old grandaught er to sit on my lap as I obviously can't play on floor with her
Personally I would say no, at the moment I'm not even letting my cat sit on my lap and I'm 2 weeks post op, while it may not do any lasting damage those toddler wriggles, elbows, spontaneous jumps could make you really sore, or make you suddenly move in a way that's detrimental to your joint, if for example she slipped your reflex would be to grab her which could easily knock you off balance.
youll have plenty of time to play when you're fully healed, until then don't take risks.

Hi Sam
Firstly apologise for predictive text typo in heading.
What you say makes perfect sense. I think am trying to jump the gun a bit but already missing playing with her. Will have to make do with watching her play on the floor for while.
Thanks for your advice

Hi Tracey,
warm welcome to this forum of hippies -
(LOL on the predictive text ) -
I agree with Sam's response - you are early days in recovering from major surgery - it must be tempting though ...
how are you doing otherwise?
big warm hug

Good morning and welcome! Like you I have a 2 ur old granddaughter but I don't let her sit with me cause the possibility of damaging the hip. Not to mention the soreness. If I can barely put pressure on that leg I know her sitting on it will not be good. Best of luck to you! 🤗🤗
Thanks Linda.you are right I know think I am trying to run before I can walk. Just been into our little road with only one stick and came back feeling exhausted . Didn't realise how weak I would be feeling. Will have to make do just watching my grandaughter play for the time being.
I hear you! I know my little one comes up to me she & says "grandma hurt leg?" The she rubs it! 😊 She was always finding my cane and bringing it to me all happy that she found it!! Best of luck!! Hugs! 🤗🤗
I can empathize with you, Tracey. I have an 11-month old granddaughter (or grandsighted! LOL) and I soooo miss getting on the floor playing with her and carrying her around. She has sat on my lap briefly a time or two but it doesn't feel great to me and she's a crawling machine these days and doesn't want to sit too long. I know it won't be long before I'm playing with her again but it is frustrating right now. I am 6 weeks post op.
Renee you should see my text messages at times. My family despair of me. Think I am not doing bad for two weeks. So hard to sleep at night on my back.leg goes into spasm and pretty painful. But doing my exercises three times a day and pottering about indoors okay. But getting cabin fever already after 2 weeks so dreading another 4 or so.how are you doing? X
Hi Leslie. I usually look after her all day on a Friday and already missing our special time together. When she visited me in hospital day after surgery she kept saying "messy grandma "pointing to cotton wool from blood tests and cannula in my hand. Roll on the next few weeks /months. How mobile are you now? X
Hi Tracey -- that would be fun to have your granddaughter one day a week. I think I could do that -- after I'm all recovered. I'm fairly mobile now. Walking inside with cane sometimes but often without. Just starting to walk outside with one crutch. I feel like I'm getting stronger all the time. But at 6 weeks post op I still feel like I have a long way to go before I can do much with Granddaughter. I do have a high chair at my place and put here in it. Then I can pull up a chair and either feed her or put some toys on her tray and play with her. It will all get better and she won't even remember this time. Cute about 'messy grandma.' Hugs.
Hi, To be honest I would say NO NO . Its early days & little ones are heavy and need to be lifted up on to your lap. They they can wriggle as well. So best avoid . Regards Amanda h
