had my left hip replacement over two year ago and suddenly started get chronic pain when in end and sometimes when I’m walking. Have been doing really well can’t think of anything I’ve done to set it off have always been active
I still have pain 5 years after mine!
I still have to take the stairs one at a time and I can’t bend down to put on my shoes because of it!
I want to have my other hip done in the spring but this recovery thing is what makes me hesitate!
Hi Ann, I totally understand how you feel , I also had my left hip replaced a little over two years now and still am dealing with quite a bit of pain and stiffness which I relate to the nature of my job. I am a nurse working 12 hour night shifts with a lot of bending , twisting , standing and walking…now my right hip is starting to feel like the left one did in the beginning stages before surgery. Trying to be positive and be grateful that I am even able to continue working but ultimately will have to go through this all over again. Wishing you the best…Kelly
i am in the same situation as well. 2 years from thr it was all good until about 4 months ago. Now stairs and hills ate difficult as is lying on the new hip. I Have tried exercises but that hasn’t worked. I am a baker so i am on my feet all day, i also walk lots with my dog, but the length of time I can walk before the hip hurts has got less and less. My other hip is also at the early stages of needing a replacement. I have been back to the physios, where i had the replacement done, but he was very non committal about it

HI, sorry this is happening to you, are you still in contact with your surgeon? Actually this is my fear, I had ltr and rtr 2yrs and 1 year ago and im also active and scared of things going wrong because of that.
But im sure its better than being lazy.
Hi Ann,
My hip is two years old today!! On the whole it’s fairly good, as in as much as I’m comfortable most of the time. Lately I have been aware of a weakness in the muscle at the top of my inner thigh, that interferes a bit with lifting the leg / sliding it inwards and some inner groin discomfort. I too have an extremely physical job and am on my feet for very long periods at work. I’m quite awkward getting down to the floor to play with my lovely granddaughter , but she’s only two and doesn’t complain! Whilst these little niggles are there I remind myself of how bad I was before, and my surgeon saying he could fix the hip but maybe not the years of damage due to struggling. Maybe you have just overdone it a bit and need to reduce the strain on the joint for a few days? I wonder if we all forget ourselves a little bit too and expect that the new hip is as perfect as the ‘original’.
i seem to be ok so far at 3 months, although if i overdo things i can get discomfort for a few days. Our home is on a steep slope and you have to cope with 90 steps from top to bottom many times a day. I think this site is mainly British ?
I, dont know if you get to choose your surgeon or know his track record?
They tell me the outcome tends t o go well with the guys who have done many procedures like yours with a low incidence of problems.
i had LTHR more than 3 years, recently getting some groin pain, also feel stiff especially after sitting for some time. i enjoy walking exercise . i sometimes do 3-5 miles walk non stop
may be I am overdoing it ( this is my only exercise)
I am thinking of seeing my GP or contacting the surgeon again
one thing I know for sure , the operated hip can never be the same as the original one
