i have enrolled on a complementary level 3 course massage aromatherapy&reflexology, the college now want written permission from gp who will not give. This, the reason they gave was not enough knowledge does any one know any way to gain the permission or have knowledge of this?
I don't understand why they need permission from your GP. Have they said why? I've taken complimentary medicine courses and didn't need any permission and I've never heard of it before!
Do you mean the course directors don't have enough knowledge, and what knowledge? You could talk to the citizens advice beureau if you're in the UK.
This would be my 'guess', your gp does not want to take a chance since there are no scientific studies with DBT2 being exposed to aroma therapy...and the college has the same restraint...
I've quickly scanned most current dbt2 journals and can find no study.
If it were merely reflexology, there is a primary source study, its open sourced so any one can access...your dr has access to these journals and may have specific journals I'm not privy to. Claudio
Do you have T2 diabetes? Some aromatherapy oils can affect body systems. Your GP is right to be concerned. The college should have an occupational physician that they can refer you to.
if your enrolling on a course to learn stuff whats the problem i dont get what the problem is .
unless your be using the treatments instead of the perscription which if its the case is your choice surley . any way type 2 diabetes can in a lot of cases be controlled alone with just diet any way . surely you have rights to decide for your self.
or have they taken that away as well.
I can learn th therapy but not take part in experiencing them in class due to college insurance policy and not getting go consent and yes I know about diet etc I did say I would sign a disclaimer, not good enough for the tutor or college
It is the reflexology part that is the sticking point I know about the oils
the college want signed consent from gp who stated they do not have enough knowledge to give consent
yes I agree with that it's all about insurance and blame culture
look at diabetes co uk - you will see that reflexology is recommended as a treatment... Maybe quote that to them?
are, get you , thats a shame . but once you have learnt the therapy and how it works , you could decide to have treatments couldnt you .
or would you have trouble finding a therapist that would treat you .
i love relexology and a lot of people bennifit from it
Could you make this clear; is the doctor denying permission because you have diabetes?
Have already qouted the diabetes site they are contacting the college insurers
