Hello all, I am curious about those who continued to have serious pain post-op. I am 3 weeks out. Have gone to the e.r. twice and was admitted both times for severe abdominal pain. Including staying an extra day after the procedure because pain was not being controlled. I have noticed that I get a strong flare up when I eat gassy foods like corn and broccoli which I was then given simethicone. They kept explaining to me that I was a rare case with a-typical symptoms and results. (Great!) Long story short, Dilaudid and vicodine did not even touch the pain at all. So they did an abdominal nerve block in the afternoon and by midnight my pain was at full throttle. Finally trial and error they ended up putting me on nerve pain meds, and steroids. Claiming (with a bit of sense of humor) "Your uterus is p*ssed!" lol
They have done two cat scans and both times everything checks out great. no damaged or ruptured organs or interstines. And they can even see where already the fibroids are on target in regards to shrinkage. No infection. So all in all they really can't explain the intense pain other than it than it being a nerve issue. The moment that the meds ware off or it gets time to take the next dose, boy do I get it!!!
So my question to all is this. "Anyone have intense pain that lasted more than two weeks and if so what did your dr. say it was?"
In advance thank you for taking the time to read and respond!
Hi
I had mine on June 24th,I have had severe pain since then.I have now started to bleed. My doctor gave me tramadol but the only thing that helps is sitting in a bath.I am going back to doctor tomorrow and have my scan 15th August.I thought I might have a little relief after surgery. My surgeon did tell me as he was doing the UFE that he didnt think it was going to work! I still look like I am about to give birth!
Millie, thank you so much for taking time to respond. I know you truly understand the frustration of not having the typical results promised! Yes, I have had to see my Doc. every week now because we just can't get the pain controlled. But I do want to mention that they started me on a combination of a nerve pain med and a steriod. This has given me the most relief so far. Also a script for gas relief. None of the regular narcotics worked for this type of pain and yours sounds like it might be the same.
I think it is at least worth mentioning to your Dr. to try it and see if you get different results. The names are Neurotin-for nerve pain, Indomethacin-(steriod/NSAID) for pain, and simethicone for gas/and pressure. Initially my stomach had went down, and because I was so ill I lost 11 lbs. in about a week and a half. but I still bloat everytime I eat. The only thiing that gives me satisfaction is knowing that on the cat scan they could see that the procedure is causing them to shrink as they should be at this point. I can't fully prove it, but I'm working off of a theory that certain feeds help feed fibroids. Sugar, starches, meat. And certain foods help keep them at bay if not all out reduce them. All green leaf vegetables.
So I am in transition with a goal of 80%veggie, 20% protein diet. Like I said I really can't gage what the results are going to be, but my guess is that it has to be a win-win either way. So to wrap it up, I see my Dr. for another follow up tomorrow and will hopefully get closer to resolving this pain issue. Millie, Don't forget to ask your Dr. about those meds. I'm hoping this will be the next step in a better direction for you. Please keep me posted, ok?
Take care, Roc.
Hi
Its really strange you mentioned you mentioned that certain foods feed fibroids. In 2012 I had five fibroids they were very small,I Started the Dukan diet which involves eating large quantities of meat.I lost five stones.Four years later I have over twenty five fibroids.I came of tramadol and my doctor put me on amitriptyline.I saw him today and told him I can not sleep and have flu like symtoms for three weeks now.I have to go for a blood test.I find out on the 15th if they have shrunk. All the best.
It's just a hunch, but I wonder if the meat had something to do with it! Because up until now because of my anemia I used to crave meat and protein like my very life depended on it.lol. But as I am in transition now and have new food goals I am in a life long process of more trial and erroe. But I do believe it has something to do with the expedient growth. Especially beef.
Again Millie, the best of luck to you, and I hope you hear great news on the 15th. Keep me posted!
