Ulcer from gluten intolerance?

6 months ago I had really bad stomach pain basically a strong burning sensation in my gut which I self diagnosed as acid reflux. My symptoms also included painful bloating, constipation, nausea and was almost always foggy headed after meals.

I decided to load up on over the counter medications for six months until my symptoms really started to affect my sleep. I was increasingly becoming anxious, depressed. I had a hard time exercising and even walking! what I mean is I was quickly out of breath especially walking up hill. I basically stopped going out because of the fatigue... I even have light sensitivity. I can't watch a movie with flashing lights because I get nauseous right away.

2 weeks ago I finally broke down and went to a gastroenterologist. I had a endoscopy and ultrasound done.

( By the way if you're reading this and you are scared of an endoscopy don't be! it's so quick, painless and worth having. I was and I wish I had done it sooner! )

My doctor saw gastritis and small ulcers other than that my testing was fine no cancerous cells, no hpylori, no celiac disease, however, my blood work showed a gluten intolerance??

My question is has anybody gone through a similar experience/symptoms and diagnosis?

Does anyone else with gluten intolerance feel foggy headed? To the point it's hard to function and you just want to stay in bed?

Does this mean I can't have gluten forever?

Are ulcers from gluten intolerance common?

I learned my results yesterday and my doctor recommended omeprozole for 3 months and to follow a Low FODMAP diet. I've been in pain and discomfort so long, I'm just really hopeful this works.

Hi nina26367

I have been on a gluten free, lactofree, dairy free, sugar free and caffeine free probiotic diet for almost a year now and i will never look back..my digestive system is fine ..i do curtail on spicey and fried foods and citrus fruit.....if you are gluten intolerant i would think yes, stay gluten free always......all the above changes i made have been well worth it albeit expensive but well worth it to feel healthy and good..what price your health??? Enjoy your new diet...bon appetite....best wishes...

Thank you! I'm actually looking forward to the new diet I've read a lot of positive things about it. I'm now looking to be pain free.

I don't know if your locale sells non-glutton goods.  Here in southern California there are tons of non-glutton substitutes.  If your stores do sell such substitutes, you might have pay a little more but at least your eating might be more enjoyable than total shut off of wheat products.
