I had a total right hip replacement n March and things are progressing ok
I saw a specialist regarding my left hip and he wants to do an ultrasound guided injection into my hip joint. I then keep a diary for a few days to record any chances in pain etc to see if it is intact radiating from the hip joint or elsewhere.
Has anyone else had this.
Hi, yes I had this in my left hip back in May, it's a diagnostic really to find out where the pain is coming from and to hopefully give relief, mine lasted 6 weeks so didn't work, hence THR next month x
My specialist wanted to do that injection, had my x-rays up on his screen.
I asked for an explanation, he started waffling on about guided injection into cartedge between bones, I looked at him in amazement and said "do you mind explaining to me where the cartledge in that picture is" a few days earlier my GP had explained my cartledge was gone or so little was left I was bone on bone, I can tell you the pain I was in it certainly felt like bone on bone.
He then looked at the x-ray, by the look on his face I knew more than he thought I did, shrugged his shoulders and said maybe not. GRRRRR, why would he suggest the injection if he had actually read my file, are I suggest he gets some more money if he does this procedure, made himself look a complete fool.
I was lucky in one way that I had a family of hip replacement's uncle, brother, aunties, now me, with a double hip, and knee's coming at a rate of knots, can no longer walk any distance, getting too hot angry and painful.
I had two done. First one lasted around 3 months. 2nd one lasted about 3 days. Had the THR 2 1/2 years ago and never looked back. Best of luck
It is difficult to get the exact spot for the injection and ultra sound helps. I think some doctors, who think they know how to do it without ultra sound, do it without! If you have an injection you are not able to have a hip replacement operation for around six months afterwards though, as they are worried about the steroids causing difficulty in healing and the possibility of infection.

I had that inject last year, all it did for me was release my very tight periformis muscle. It certainly didn't take any pain away.
It was a strange sensation of hot and cold, and I could feel it most in the triangle above my bum. I didn't want to have it again as it can lead to softening of the bone. I am now waiting for my hip replacement.

Me temporary relief from the pain. First one I had lasted for a year. It’s relatively painless. I’m having another next month but it will be the last one before the op.
