uncomfy to sit

Hi there I'm 3weeks post op tlhr scar area looks good nurse pleased with it ,does or did anyone out there feel like their sitting on a lump of concrete or bricks in top of thigh/butt. I think I'm cracking up the least thing I worry something is wrong advise would be much appreciated from you lovely people. Lots of hugs xx

I am pre op but in the forum here I have heard of some feeling like they are sitting on golf balls. They have cut through all the connective tissues, hang in there, I believe this to shall pass. Sounds like you are doing well! I am so glad for you!

Hi Anna.

I struggled enormously with sitting at first.

And i have lots of padding lol.😁

I found i got the chairs at correct height but ne end of trying could i sit for more than few mins.

I could sit more comfortably on my bed so made a sanctuary there.

After a few weeks though it gradually got better.

Think the tenderness in soft tissues ligaments and any bruising needed to settle.

Best wishes for speedy recovery. You will find this site so helpful ❤

Hello!! For me it was difficult sitting in a chair with legs down. I feel pulling and it was uncomfortable. I would and still do, sit in recliner with legs up just within last few days have I been able to sit a lil more upright with legs slightly elevated. I can sit in regular chair but not too long. Slowly but surely it gets easier!! Good luck!

Yes!  Although I have that feeling in the unopperated hip too.

The OA felt like sitting on two hot coals!  Now I just have one hot coal and a golf ball in my operated leg. I believe it is gradually getting better!

I had my sofa raised so I can have my feet up and sort of recline so I am not sitting directly on my "sit" bones. Also bought a memory foam cushion, about £20 from Amazon which I used a LOT before the surgery and in hospital. Also take it with me if I go any where where I am not sure what the seating will be like!

Also treated myself to an expensive sun lounger and blocks to raise it on.

"Jamie Oliver" range. It is very comfortable and gives me the option of somewhere else to sit, especially if it is nice weather. Good thing it is summer here and I have not had to worry too much about getting socks on and off!

I am fed up with "butt" pain. Had to stand through meetings at work. Looked like a right walley!  But already operated leg is much more comfortable than the unopperated one!

I promise you it will ease. Just go slow and carefull for now and do all exercises religiously!

Healing Fairy Dust coming your way. 🌟💫

I still find sitting quite uncomfortable.  Like up eating at a dining table.  It's my least favourite thing to do.  Sitting in my recliner wasn't great but it's better now.....the recliner was comfy but sitting on my bum hurt.  I have a cushion and then put two gel packs under.  I don't make the gel packs cold anymore but still use them.  They give some cushioning.  I'll be happy when I can sit on regular chairs at a table.  Not sure when that will happen -- when hip precautions are lifted around 12 weeks?

Hi Leslie thank you for your reply that's a load off my mind will send husband to buy some gel

Hi anna:

Yes, sitting was very uncomfortable for quite some time for me. I am currently 10 weeks post op and can sit ok most of the time (at least that hip is ok). I still get pains in my thigh/femur occasionally. Wishing you well.....Barb

Hi,

I have the same feeling, like I'm sitting on something and it has been 5 weeks since my hip replacement.

hi anna,  as said, it is normal - so much healing is taking place at that site - wound and muscles and tendons are being repaired -please visit https://patient.info/forums/discuss/thr-useful-resources-487147 - this web site is created by one of our valued forum members Graham, aka Rocketman - I like the gel-packs solution - wish I had known about it at that time -be gentle with Anna, okay ? big warm hugrenee

Hi Anna:

As you can see, a lot of us hippies relate to that feeling of a lump of coal under our thigh/butt cheek or cheeks. Good description. I also found that the  firm cushion I used post op during restrictions still help after the 3 months. Also firm chairs which are a bit higher are more comfortable for me. Hope you get comfy soon.

All the best,

Cathy

Thank you Cathy wishing you well Anna xxx

Yep - it's the old 'sitting on a pile of golf balls - see my website.
