Underactive thyroid at 20 years of age?

It may just be paranoia, although what first brought it to my attention of the possibility that I could have it is being sensitive to the cold. I find myself being very cold when others are not. Even when I put on extra clothing, or wrap a blanket around me I find it difficult to not feel cold or warm up. Researching underactive thyroid I found this to be a symptom. It also runs in my family with many aunts and uncles on my mums side suffering with the condition. I would say I struggle with losing weight also. Other symptoms include poor memory and concentration which lately I have found to be very frustrating. I would forget things very quickly, within the space of minutes. I also find that my nails are quite brittle, although i would say that they have always been that way. I know it is more common in older people, but there is still a chance of younger adults developing this condition.

I may just be trying to self diagnose when there is no need but I am considering going to the doctors. Has anyone else been diagnosed around the same age as myself?? any comments would be greatly appreciated.

You don't mention your age but people as young as 10 have been diagnosed with UAT!!! You are not paranoid, the symptoms are very real!!

I would definitely go to a doctor for a thyroid function test. If it runs in your family you will have s greater than average chance of having an under active thyroid.

Sorry did not see the title!!
