I have Duane Syndrome in my left eye, I was born with it and had a surgery when I was 10 yrs old to cut some ligaments away. My vision has declined more since I was younger but the past 10 months my vision had gotten worse and I noticed I’ve been experiencing unequal pupils that are responsive to light and fluncuate. I went for MRI and we found a Chiari Malformation that I’m having surgery for because I was experiencing symptoms. But no one can seem to figure out the unequal pupils... the only thing on the MRI was the malformation, so what could be causing these unequal pupils??
I am having an ongoing thing with some crazy vision problems myself. And one of the weird things I have noticed is oftentimes one pupil is a little bigger than the other. And it fluctuates and sometimes it's the other pupil that's bigger it's so weird. I mentioned it to my doctor and ophthalmologist but they don't seem to pay much attention to me anyway. I've had a full Ophthalmology work up as well as with my ophthalmologist and and my neurologist. Brain and Spine MRI are clear and EEG is normal and nothing terribly out of the ordinary in the spinal tap besides a little bit of high protein levels. But in blood test that I have a show extremely low iron and it's causing anemia. Not so sure that the iron alone is causing the anemia because I'm on a good dose of iron supplements and iron levels continue to drop as well as the anemia worsens. So that's the only thing I can really think of this causing these vision problems and the unequal pupils. Definitely bring up anaemia to your doctor as it could be the cause. I do have an appointment at the University of Utah with a neuro opthamologist. This will be on December 19th and I'm hoping that after all this time and no one answers I finally get some. We'll see but I will definitely let you know. Also let me know what you think about the anaemia thing. Good luck to you I hope everything works out
Also wanted to add as far as the anemia they did all kinds of testing to find out if I was bleeding somewhere and everything was negative. So I'm a 27 year old male and I eat a lot of iron rich food and have always I have no intestinal bleeding no blood in the urine and my iron levels are under 30 and I'm anemic LOL something just doesn't add up there.
