Unexpected pain

Ok put up with post op discomfort, then as thought all was going well have been having extreme pain, it was just like before gallbladder removed. Was bringing up loads of yellowish bile. Hubby rang 111 as got so bad. Paramedic was brilliant. Managed to help sort pain relief. Slept on and off all day. Still got horrendous pain In back and right side with niggles all as if not had bladder removed. Is this part of healing or should I be worried.

Hi

do you have a post op advice number for the hospital if you get complications ? If so ring ...

you need to rule out a complication . if worried Google complications of gallbladder surgery. If you feel you may have a complication go to a and e. Get scanned and checked it may be nothing but it's always best to air on being careful.

I have read that some stones are left in the bile duct or may form in the liver and can pass after the operation. Causing pain etc...

I hope it settles but I did not suffer vomiting or agony my pain was controlled by paracetamol ...

But if your pain disappears you will know it's settled

let us know how it goes

concerned for you

Thanks Sally, all my obs were normal, and paramedic left once pain subsided, but stated that if it comes back 999 . Sat here with niggles and discomfort , better than it was. Was shock when it started, did not expect it. Pain relief due in an hour. Hope to keep it at bay otherwise will dial 999.

Sounds like it has settled down . smile

hope you get a good nights sleep

but yes if not 999

thinking of you

Sounds to me there is definitely some thing not right. Do you not have a follow up appt.? i would be in that doctor's office asap! Keep me posted.

Thanks for reply. Hosp follow up Nov.

I have wondered if it could of been sever wind, but would of thought that it would of been gone by now. Know lots of gasses after op.

Taken MEDS so hope will sleep well. I do suffer with severe diverticulitis and have Barretts Oesophagus so difficult l t sometimes to know what is going on. My bowel movements have improved so very pleased with that side of things.

This site has been brilliant as getting answers from those going through the same issues really helps.

Hi Janet!  Sorry to hear you've been so unwell.  did you contat your gp, and what did she or he have to say?  do you think its all been worth it?  Hope i don't experience the same thing when my turn comes due to the fear i have of vomiting!  keep me informed as to how you go, and hope things improve soon.  take care.  Val.

No regrets Valerie, could not of gone on with being in and out of hospital and constant pain. Hopefully this is something which will go away. Today it's like having a stitch. Each person will be different. Ask for anti sickness MEDS, THEY do work. Have you had a date yet?

Hi Janet

Really sorry to hear you are having a rough time of it!

That bile is awful stuff and if you're being sick it's the body's way of getting rid of it

quickly!

I am 19days post op, but I am so glad I have not had to suffer like you have.

I have some discomfort in upper right abdomen that makes it really painful

to wear a bra still, and can't lie on my right side yet...but other than that I have not had any of the symptoms you describe.

I have read that complications can occur after surgery, but please don't hesitate

to call for the ambulance if the pain gets worse?!

They can do loads of blood tests that can tell them what is going on, in the meantime I will be hoping you have just had a bit of a set back and you feel better soon?!smile

Hi Janet!  Phoned the secretary, and she told me that there's quite a waiting list here in Aberdeen.  I told her that i kept having attacks, and couldn't stand the pain and attacks for much longer.  She said that she'd try and push it forward, and that i'd be hearing from them.  that was Monday, but haven't heard anything yet.  hope it won't be too long, and i have it done before xmas.  I'll certainly be asking for anti sickness medication due to the fear that i have.  Did you contact the gp, and has she or he been to see you?  Hope things improve soon, and tell that lovely hubby of yours that i'm so glad that he's there for you.  Take care.  Val.

Hi Sunshinemb!  You sound your usual sunny self!  Glad to hear that your feeling a bit better, and not having the problems that poor Janet's having.  I haven't had a date yet, but hope i get one before xmas, and as i said to Janet when i replied to her, i'll certainly be asking for anti sickness medication, due to the fear i have of vomiting, and have had this since i was 5.  Anyway, you take care, and keep smiling.  Val.

Valerie glad you made that call and hope you hear soon. If you do get another attack l recommend you phone for an ambulance.

Don't suffer in silence. This would also be in your favour towards getting in sooner. My fingers crossed you do not wait long.

Glad your getting on ok, just hope this is a one off. Getting your problem of pain under ribs. But hope it will also fade, seem to be doing it all backwards.

Hi Janet!  When i had that last bad attack, my hubby phoned 111, but he said next time, he's not going to listen to me, but will just phone for an ambulance. he's been so good over these past 2 years, and has had to put up with a lot when i suffer with these attacks.  are you feeling better to-day?  Val.

Yes, niggles and very latholgic, no energy whatsoever, good job got hubby around. Your husband is right, 999 next time. Have had great care from all medical staff, thank God for NHS hope it won't go private like they are talking about. It's nice to be anywhere UK and not worry. Still got fingers crossed you hear soon.

Hi Valerie

thanks for your lovely message!

I hope you get a date soon?! You could ask your GP for the anti sickness

medication before you go into hospital, I have some in all the time due to having problems with nausea related to another health problem! Just use it as and when I need it!

Take care Val and keeping my fingers crossed for an early date and good

result from your surgery!smile

Hi Janet

I think the major problem with laproscopic surgery is that it gives a false

impression that things heal quicker, this maybe true about the surface

scars but inside it is still a major operation and I cannot see these

internal wounds healing for at least 3months.

I have been out with my friend for a couple of hours today and after about an

hour I knew I had had enough, now back home on my bed flat on my back in my pj's and just taken some pain killers!

So I think it is a lot slower process than the NHS guidelines!rolleyes

Hi Sunshine

youve hit the nail on the head.

3 months was about right for me . I was tired , had niggling ache in right side when I ate and just felt like my plug had been pulled out of its socket ... Then whoopee energy returned , abdominal muscles strengthened , niggling ache eased and disappeared stopped feeling old felt good ... That's healing ..

got to be a patient patient not easy 😏

You give me hope Sally. Had several ops in past so knew what I was letting myself in for. But once you come up against the next op it's like Starting out again.

Hi Janet!  Glad to hear your a bit better.  I get very tired and lithargic, and sometimes in bed by 8.  feel quite bright first thing but seem to flag by night time.  Hope i get word soon.  Take care, and will be in touch on.  Val.
