Universal credits

How much saving can you have before it effects your universal credits

Hi. Im pretty sure its £6000 before you start to have universal credit reduced.

Hi,

£6,000 and over and your UC will be reduced by £4.35 per month for every £250 over than amount.

Anything over £16,000 and you won’t be entitled to any means tested benefits and your UC will stop.

Thank you Denise

For disabled people this maximum limit of savings before you start having deductions is unfair, and has not been reviewed for many years. £6000 is not very much these days, with disabled people having to buy various aids, such as mobility scooters and there own cars if they are not on high rate mobility. There are many expenses. It would be far more realistic for it to be £10,000 or higher and a maximum before stopping it altogether at £25,000. And if a OAP moves in with a person younger than state pension age, not only do they lose their Pension Credit that can top up on top of the state pension, but they have to move onto Universal Credit. Instead of being allowed to have savings of £10,000, the maximum is £6,000 between two people. And the younger person loses all their benefits. And neither can claim housing benefit, and have to pay council tax. The older person loses their cold weather payment and other things. This is the most cruel injustice in the benefit system. And no free tv licence. No free dentist, or opticans. I read about a couple who this happened to. The older ones state pension was above the allowed income. They are now facing being evicted from their Housing Association property. Time the people of this country stood up to these bullies and demand a change.

A change of government would help rid us of the bullies you mention. worried Joe.
