Up On Both Legs! No more HIPPITY hopping around on one leg!

Yes! My long awaited day has arrived! Two months post op and was released two days ago to walk and drive again. And.....drum roll....I am 100% PAIN FREE! Yes, me, who spent a year and a half writhing in crippling pain from a THR gone bad. My revision surgery worked! Now I can begin rebuilding strength again, and reclaiming my life!

My doc said I can use a cane, but I am going to use my walker for periods of longer walking because I care very much about walking properly with good posture and heel to toe follow through and the frame helps me accomplish this. Inside my house I can maneuver well without any support.

It feels as though there is a slight leg length discrepancy, but also feel it is too soon to judge it.

Thanks to all of you on this site who helped me rise up out of my pain to seek a second opinion which led to this successful revision!

I asked my surgeon what is the worst thing I can do to ruin this hip and he said "Smoke", which surprised me! I told him that I have never smoked, and he then showed me the one physical move that could destroy. Pulling my knee up to my chin and twisting at the same time.

So the 90 degree rule has only relaxed a bit so I plan to be careful and see the surgeon again in 3 months.

Great news !

Thats great news Dawn, i'm on waiting list for revision surgery after a year of painful re-occurring dislocations, lots of time off work, my life being on hold, unable to even play with my grandsons, its been an awful time so I hope my surgery goes as well as yours, there is light at the end of the tunnel !!

That's really marvellous, Dawn. Keep on keeping on

Good for you Dawn! Good for you! So happy for you.

I also started with the walker, not crutches. I also feel the walker allowed me to develop the proper posture and rechnique of heel toe. I did alomst all my beginning walking again using a walker and only used crutches for 3 days with 2 crutches then 2 days with one crutch, then I was crutch free and never went back again. I only walked as long as I could maintin good posture, once I started to walk without good posture I stopped. What good is it to have endurance with a bad posture that would eventually develop into a bad pain somewhere else from having bad posture? Posture is King, endurance is the Prince.

Yeah, pain free, great isn't it? It's like a new life.

That's brilliant Dawn.  Congratulations.  May you be pain free from now on.  Best wishes, Barbara

Good for you Dawn..after what you've been through its great to see some light at the end of the long tunnel.

Onwards and upwards nowπŸ˜€

Congrats Dawn, well done, no stopping you now

Dawn, you must have ESP writing on this forum last night, as last night, while tossing and turning I was thinking of you and how you are doing!!!

So very happy for you and that you have found your happy ever after...it was a long, painful fight for you, but you had the strength to believe in yourself and demand the medical attention that you so deserved...you are an inspiration to others that are fighting what appears to be an up hill battle....it is very sad that you had to even do this in the first place.

I hope that you and your family can enjoy the summer and its appears that you have a bright future ahead of you,

hugs and kisses from a "snow free" Toronto

yay well done, how relieved you must feel. Good idea to be careful I discovered today that I am never again going to try to bend down to pull a ream of paper from under a desk - and that if you ask an 11 year old student they are more than happy to do it for you!!!!

Patricia, everyone in my family has some working level of ESP, no joke, we have only ever discussed it between ourselves though so we can avoid the CRAZY stereotype! Ha! In this case, it must have been you with the ESP!

But alas, I believe that there might not be happy ever after endings when it comes to hip joint replacements. My hip is completely pain free but now my knee hurts and my ankle hurts! Ha! HOWEVER, even if I required a knee surgery, which I already knew I would need in the near future anyway, that could never hurt as badly as that floating migrating hip device did!

I am smiling.

Hugs from cold Tennessee whose level of the feeling of cold might be Ontario's warm!

Renee, I grew up part of my childhood in Holland and have many memories. Thank you for the cheer! This was a long wait and I welcome this pain free functioning hip!

Big hug back!

Thanks Brian! Have already begun deep Spring cleaning which is over due from last year due to the failed hip devise, so this project might last until Fall!

Hi pollyLB,

Yes! There is light at the end of the tunnel. Just difficult to see it all the time. Mine too was a long excruciating tunnel.

I am raising my granddaughters and I think they have forgotten that I can be playful and fun. Now I am surprising them!

My life halted too and then when the revision was done, the bone grafting caused me to have to wait to bear weight down on it. I can assure you that I had days when I screamed out of boredom and frustration during the wait, but in the end of those moments, I knew that I did not want to mess up this surgery.

Surgery is taxing. A revision feels like an onslaught. But for a chance at being pain free, it is worth the battle.

Take care and let us know when your big day rolls around so we can cheer you on! And while you are waiting for your revision, we can cheer you on!

Thanks for the cheer Sally!
