hello everyone I’m here to give u an update so I had my 5th hip surgery on dec 3rd which was the 2nd revison I had one revision dec 18th 2018 as well. I must say I dont think I could go through this anymore this was the worst surgery ever and intense pain I got a massive bruise on the side of my hip which was weird cause I never bruised with any of my surgerys. I have 47 staples they did an anterior approch and I can definitely say I can feel everything even the implant it’s so much pressure and I found out through physio in my town where I live I got to see my xrays on her computer and it shows the stem part is thinner and I have 2 wires holding it place. why didnt the surgeon tell me anything I had the surgery at 8am dec 3rd and left the next day cause I wanted to be home in my own bed. but they did xrays first thing in the morning then physio then home, remind me next time to bring pain meds with me for the ride home as I live 2 hrs from regina sask canada dr said if I pass physio I can go home which I did by the way hospital food is yucky. so during my first week home the pain has been unbearable tons of ice pain meds. this week isnt as bad as last week. but I sure hope ths is it till I’m a senior I’m only 37.
OMG, this is horrible. Why did you need so many revisions. Was it the same surgeon for all your surgeries?
Poor you sounds horrific
How terrible why 5? i really feel for you
Ditto on the “OMG”!!!
Your story is the worse I’ve read (so far) from the hip replacement community.
I’m 63 with 2 replacements within a 5 year period. One for each hip.
Is this the only hospital/surgeon in town? What are his/her credentials? Sounds like this surgeon just walked out of medical school and barely passed Hip Surgery 101. If things don’t improve within a reasonable amount of time find a different surgeon and check their credentials. Your experiences are unacceptable. Bring your own pain meds for the ride home? I can only guess that after 5 operations they think you must already have enough. If they are opioids: Codeine.
Hydrocodone (Vicodin, Hycodan)
Morphine (MS Contin, Kadian)
Oxycodone (Oxycontin, Percoset)
Hydromorphone (Dilaudid)
Fentanyl (Duragesic)
Hopefully you are not alone and you have family and/or friends who can help and support you.
Please be careful.
I sincerely wish you the best of luck.
hello so yeah my surgeon is the only one in sask that does the anterior approch and I think it’s my body rejecting these implants I was born with hip dysplasia so that might be why too it all started 7 years ago it started with a laberal tear then a yr later microfracture then yr later hip replacement then yr later hip revision to replace ball and socket then this yr hip revision again two weeks ago to remove the stem and put in a new one I hope this is it I cant go through this again I’m on the waiting list for a second opinion hope it works out
yes same surgeon I think I didnt heal properly last time I had to rush back to work but now I’m off work for how ever long it takes I got approved for cpp disability on the first try as I had enough evidence to prove my case. I dont know if hes the one that messed it up or maybe the job I was doing as it requires alot of movement I’m a kitchen supervisor a full time wife and mommy no breaks for me
you had the same problem i did with hip dysplasia , my hip problems started at age 41 first hip op two years later 2nd all went well with those thankfully . One was done interior and the other posteria , the interior took longer to recover . I had a fall from my horse 3 years later and although i broke my elbow i must have damaged my right hip as i could not put full weight on it , after a lengthy battle i finally found out i had damaged socket so i went in to get a revision done o fix this 2016 feb after this surgery i had so much pain getting in and out of bed even lying down was hard , this continued for months . I went and saw another surgeon 7 months after and was told everything was fine ? they did a ultra sound and took fluid out to test but at this stage the results were never followed up so nothing was done . i went on for 2.5 years with this pain and tried all other areas to find out why i was in pain and sick only to find out i had a infection ! So back to my surgeon to get this infection sorted , I had to get a two phase hip revision which consists of taking out existing implant sucking out as much of the infection they can , put anti biotics beads in and in liner , be put on a pick line for 6 weeks . Once the infection was gone a custom implant measured for me would be put in . Massive undertaking and inbetween the two ops i dislocated twice so 4 times ! the most horrible pain i have ever experienced . After 4 th dislocation i went in for another surgery to stop it coming out , i am 9 months and is still in ( all of this within a year and a half ) . I have had intensive physio and am slowly getting my strength back in my muscles which were wrecked by the huge infection which was like a large cyst . I still have a long way to go physically and mentally but ill keep on keeping on . I feel you and in some ways we are similar my advice to you is listen to your body if you are not feeling like it is ok ask ask ask questions and make them listen ! I hated how they never tell you whats going on and what they are doing to you so I got every scan / x ray / mri / also all written reports on every surgery . I feel that helped me understand why i felt the way i did , I am 53 now so ten years of hips 6 in total . oh also get blood tests done and learn about the markers , high CRP , high white count and anemia is a indicator of something is going on and not good things . I wish you all the best it is hard and really suks as you are so young , it changes your life . But you have got this
