Hi all, I have recently returned from hosp following my ileoanal pouch (2nd stage take down supposed to be aug) God what have I done? when admitted May I had a healthy output/stoma good body weight, no anemia, following op there were complications inc vomiting due to my bowel stopping working after a day or so so I was pumped by a tube which was choking and had to wear all night, after which they realised it wasnt down far enough, I also caught a chest infection whilst in there, my hb fell to anemic levels and I could barely stand, I lost weight as well as recovering from the op itself it was the worst month in my life. I found this op much much worse than the subtotal colectomy I had year ago. my new stoma is now tiny and if it gets any smaller it will disapear back inside therefore there have been plenty leaky bags, I wasnt alowed home (or was in any fit state to) as my output was like water (and still is), bubbling and everything I eat, drink comes out in the bag as liquid after a minute, its ridicleuous. I am at home now and hardly get up, so weak, suffering from dehydration,which is worse than colitis. After being told I have a short bowel and they gave me a short bowel syndrome leaflet I had never heard of this before and I thought I researched eveything before I went ahesad with reversal, stoma nurse contacted consultant said they would prob call me in for iv fliud or blood work, 2 days later .....nothing. Feel like I am wasting away. Will I get better? what the heck is short bowel syndrome and I need to be reassured its not permenant as I have 2 young children to look after and as of now I can barley stand. I am taking 12 x 5mg loperamide and 3 x dirorlite. Very depressed which insnt like me ...please help.
