Update on LTHR

Hi

Just thought I would give you an update after all your good advice on how long to wait before I decide on when to go ahead with a THR.

I had my consultation today and was given a date for the 29th of March. Just hoping everything goes smoothly as I know what problems some of you have had, and I just hate being laid up for to long lol.

Hiya Phillip,

Hope all goes well in March for you, I'm sure it will 😀

I've got my specialist appointment next week, fingers crossed I could be in March too.

Stay safe

Pete 😀

Hope all goes well Philip. I’ve had friends call their’s the bionic hip and so far so good for me, 3 weeks post op I feel so good in myself, my family and friends keep reprimanding me for doing to much. I’m just experiencing what I would say normal pain/healing symptoms.

It’s the lack of independence that’s frustrating (no bending, twisting etc) and the crutches become an inderance....

Good Luck

Helen

I had a RTHR on 11/9 (just short of 8 weeks) and I really wasn't laid up much. I worked at home when I felt like it the first 2 weeks and I went back to work the 3rd week (short days). The biggest issue was getting tired, your body is healing and wants sleep, hence the shorter days. All in all it has gone very well, only the first week was rough. No real pain, just discomfort.

Eight weeks out and I am worried that a March 29th surgery date will be too long, the pain I had prior to my procedure was unbearable sometimes.  Good luck

Hi Philip

Good decision. Despite my surgeon advising it was time and in his opinion it is better not to wait longer than necessary, i did wait and it suddenly got really bad and i had a very long wait...long saga. I know people have problems but the majority who dont and sail thriugh dont post as they dont need help, so it can appear maybe a bit skewed at times. I had my op in June and cant beleive how mobile I am. I still have physio as my leg was shorter since I was 12 and now the same length a lot of muscles to be stretched, but tons better than last few years.night and day.and I wasnt laid up too long..fortunately...or unfortunately I was at my desk at home day after I got out. It is a big operation and did take a lot out of me but was off painkillers other than paracetamol after 10 days. Worst thing was sleeping on my back. But it passes and I have never regretted it. A few times I have been almost blown away walking and realise the awful grinding pain featured for several years has gone. Good luck!

Some have problems, some don't - I hope you are one of the lucky ones.

Get yourself prepared for what you will need during your recovery, and remember that although it seems to go on forever, it doesn't really.

Hi Philip, you should be able to walk virtually immediately after the hip op. I had posterior approach and could not believe that I did not have my normal hip still. You may be a bit slow and stiff but I was amazed how quickly I could get around. I must admit when I got home I never used a stick or crutches in the house as I was hopeless on crutches. I have a small Victorian house with lots of steps and managed to get around better than I did before the op and that was on the day I got home. I should not worry about being laid up, you will be encouraged to walk.
