Hi for those of you who have jot long had thupis surgery I thought you might want some light....! I drove for the first time today and it was absolutely fine. Have now been out a couple of times shopping walking steadily in trainers. Am a bit slower than I was before at the moment but only to be expected. My scars are healing nicely too. I'm not saying I am back to normal, far from it, but I am totally happy with what I have had done. I still elevate my legs every time I sit down and have 2 pillows under my legs or feet in bed. I know everybody is different but want to give you guys positive feedback here coz I know only full well having had both feet done how you just think hugs are never gonna be the same and possibly regret having had this done! My only question here is, sounds a bit stupid, but when buying new shoes does th. Mean going up a size now the toes are straight!? Xx
Hi
I am very glad to hear your update . Needed something positive to focus on . I'm 6 days post op . Plaster of Paris supporting left foot slowly started to move upwards on sat . My Sunday it was over 3" over my big toe pulling with it the stitches bandage etc ..
Went to hospital and had the whole covering p o p plus bandages removed and redone
Hopefully the pain will subside and I will see the sense in my decision to have the bunions operated
Wish you all the best
I'mhappy it's all going well for you. I've been out of my cast for almost three weeks now and all seems OK, tried driving a few days after cast came off but couldn't manage it, too much pain under the ball of foot when pressing the clutch, but now I can and I love it. All I can wear on my feet are trainers or ugg boots, had a party to go to on Saturday and thought I'd try some fashionable leather boots but couldn't get my foot in as it swells up quite often, hope that's not going last too long!. Considering getting the other foot done now.
Thats a good point about the shoe size. Im now on day 4 iv just been to asda with my daughter, she pushed the trolley and i hobbled behind her passing things to her, it wasnt as bad as i thought it would be but im back on the sofa with foot elevated . The pain so far is nowhere near as bad as i was expecting it can only get better
Sorry but did you have bunion surgery?
Yes i did i had scarf+akin osteotomy +soft tissue release i had it on thur dec 4th 2014 why do you ask
Well I'm having both feet done after Christmas and I've been following the posts. You are the only person who has been up and about so quick! Most seem to be imobile for at least 2 weeks and then complaining of pain and swelling for at least another 6 weeks! Where did you have your op? I must say you have cheered me up.
My local nhs hospital im in yorkshire.. i wish id had both at once but my surgeon wouldnt do both. I have a very high pain threshold some people dont cope very well with pain im 54 but it still hasnt got me down. I hope you are ok after your op . Some people milk it aswel i can only tell you about my op..il keep you posted if you like . Im glad iv cheered you up. I have been doing as my surgeon said which is keep it elevated for 50 mins in every hour but i needed to get out of the house yesterday and as i usually go to asda on mondays i thought i would go .
Forgot to say my ankle is very swolen and bruised but nothing to complain about i thought that was expected
Thank you for reply. I will happy if you keep me posted. I'm 55 having my op in Birmingham. I think I cope with pain quite well. We'll see....
When do you go. Are you a day patient . That helped me aswell not having to stay overnight
My op is on 23/01/15. the doc said that if my op is before 3.00pm I'll be able to go home same day. I hope so, I'd like to get in before the foot block wears off.
Mine was 9am i was first on the list back on ward by 11 eating toast and drinking tea then walked to toilet. My husband picked me up at 2pm and i was home by 2.30 good luck keep in touch please
That sounds good. Thanks for replying you've lifted my spirits. I will watch your updates with interest. And keep in touch.
Good morning. Im now on day 9 i have had no pain or throbbing at all for 3 days i have also slept for the last 3 nights without having my foot elevated in bed the only bad night i have had was the first one and that was only because i didnt no how to get my foot comfortable. I have been doing some hoovering ( i used my cylinder vac its not as heavy as upright) and i have been xmas shopping. The thing im not happy about is im not having my stitches out until 3 days before xmas, apparantly my surgeon likes to leave them in as long as possible. I am happy with how things are going in general though
Hello paula75437 did you find out about the shoe size i thought that was a very interesting point
Hi yes I asked my friend whose mum had it done and she said heres stayed the same. I suppose thinking about it they would really coz most people have just 1 done so they wouldn't buy odd shoes would they? I did try on a pair but feet are still swollen so no go yet but bought some sketchers albeit a size larger and they are soooooo comfortable! Glad to hear to you are making good progress x
2 weeks ago I fell down the stairs (what an idiot!) and torn a ligament in my ankle and hair line fracture to middle toe. That was PAINFULL. But I went to work and carried on. Everyone kept saying I needed to take painkillers and be off work for at least 3 weeks. I kept thinking this is nothing compared to bunion surgery. Reading your posts has made me think again - you really are an inspiration to me. Looks like your Christmas will be ok.
It sounds to me like you will be fine. Thank you for your kind comments
I forgot to say earlier that the swelling has completely gone and the bruising has nearly gone the surgical shoe is now too big
