4 weeks post-op (3rd on right hip).
In the absence of any clear, detailed guidance about exercise/physio, once home, I decided to just listen to my body. I have been doing few exercises shown in hospital, regularly.
I have been walking, unaided, around the house since I came home.
Today, glorious weather, and I knew I had to step up (!).
So, accompanied by a friend, who carried my crutches, just in case, I walked about 500 yards. I'm told - great posture and alignment, no sign of a limp. Which will confound my consultant who told me after the operation that I'd have one for life, because (I think it's the ipsilateral gluteus medius, but will have to ask) this particular one had become totally detached from bone.
Feeling v smug. Can't wait to show him and, of course, increase distance by the day.
Sounds like you are doing great congrats. I am 11 weeks not post op from right hip replacement. It has been an up and down experience. I drove for the first time this week and retired the toilet seat riser. Find evenings frustrating and somewhat uncomfortable. I expect that the need for the other hip to be done is slowing down the recovery. I think listening to our bodies is preferable to the general recommended exercises.
Hi, it will be 4 weeks on saturday for me too, I had a right replacement and need my left doing as soon as is possible, I too am off crutches, just used them in hospital to keep the nurses happy but could get walking with just a stick on second day, I think we will be fine, no need for a stick for the rest of my life and no limp for either of us, I go for a 1 Km walk every other day and do leg lifts and abductor side leg lifts a few times every now and then, and bum clenches at night in bed and when ever I can remember when in bed, I am sleeping quite a lot more than before the operation, my Surgeon was more concerned about different leg lengths and that worried me but they are the same length, got to see him in two weeks about the left one my strong side, that is now my very much weaker side, great to hear that someone else is getting on much better than their experts predicted.
Kind regards Ian.
And kind wishes back at you for continued improvement, Ian.
