Hi girls. I got home from hospital last night. Was great to get to my own bed. However today I have been having extremely loose stools. I was expecting to be constipated instead. Feeling quite poorly this afternoon. I'm not sure if it's to do with antibiotics as I was given them to protect against post op infection. X
Hi. I had same on night after an investigation op and was told some people react to anesthetic that way. Only a few times then settled. Keep an eye and call Dr if you worried or feel worse to be on safe side. Hope you feel better soon
Hi Jill
Isn't it lovely to get home, to your own things and your own bed, absolute bliss!
So sorry to hear you are feeling quite poorly. Are you taking a stool softener? Sometimes this over does it a bit, so either cut the dose down or stop taking it until you need it, same if you are taking anything like Movicol etc. The operation is quite hard on the bowel it gets quite a bit of battering, so you can go either way on the constipation or too loose.
Hope you soon feel on top of the world.
Love
Jacqui
I remember mine being irritable for a few weeks. I was taking Movicol as I was petrified of getting constipated and having to push, but in fact the opposite ended up happening. I have no idea why, but it has settled down for me now (about 2 months post op). Perhaps all that rummaging around in there just irritates the bowels? Good luck with your recovery. xx
Hi
Yes I had exactly the same problem.
Day of discharge from hospital my tummy went mental which involved trying desperately to get to the toilet quickly which didn't always happen.
It will settle. I was in quite a bit of pain with trapped wind and upset tummy and it was a blast!!! Literally!!
Peppermint oil helps with a drop of hot water But just make sure you also eat.
It should settle in a few days hopefully
I had same, i had op on Monday 13.4.15 and ended up in the loo most of Wednesday night through to Thursday morning, mine was because the hospital refused to believe i would need my imodiums (IBS) to bung me up as apparently most people get constipated, well they never reckoned on my bowels lol. I also think that although the peppermint oil tablets helped with the gas they didn't do me any favours with the loo end of it as when i was ill all i could smell and taste was peppermint which although nicer that what you would normally smell was still a bit weird.. I honestly think the whole thing affects people differently as i expected/hoped to be constipated as this would have been a total new experience for me but has not happened
I had read that bowels get moved around by surgeon if you have TAH. Can get bruised. I had lot of bowel pain, churning, constipated then really loose, sometimes seemed to spend a lot of my day in bathroom. But settled to some degree after about 6 weeks.
So the upset tummy still continues. I've also had some clots on my pads today. The hospital phoned me earlier to see how I was since coming home. Nurse thinks it may be antibiotics that r giving me sore tummy. As for the clots I've to phone in tomorrow if they get any bigger or I start to bleed heavier. I'm really hoping that this is normal.
Xx
Yes, I'd definitely keep in touch with the hospital re the clots - I'm pretty sure that any bleeding should be reasonably light. Hopefully it will ease soon. xx
