. I also am worried that my urethral sponge is visible. When I look in the mirror I can see it below my urethra. It looks like a cherry size brain. Has anyone experienced this??? Is it another prolapse ? I was meant to have a cystocele also, but on completing the uterus lift the surgeon felt it wasn't necessary. I don't know what's normal anymore either - can't remember. But i think seeing this 'brain' isn't ...

Hi Sheila. I hadn't heard of it either until I tried to find out what was going on down below. You can google it but the best way I can think to describe- it's on the upper wall of the vagina, at the front. It surrounds the urethra. With the finger it feels like a spongy mass.

Before my surgery I could also see a 'smooth bulge', I now think that was the bladder prolapse. I can't see that now so hopefully that's corrected. Still worried, after 12 weeks, that I do still have some leaking. ☹️

A lady on another thread described having exactly the same thing - a cherry sized 'brain'. She said she was worried too but that apparently it's completely Normal and after 12 weeks she's feeling great. So we are not alone with our little brains! I'm taking some comfort from that 😳
I had my operation at the end of November and I have exactly the same thing. It is freaking me out. The surgeon said I still have a mild bladder prolapse but can wait to be done as I am still healing from other op. It is really getting me down and making me feel abnormal but as you say I never know what I should look like down there so quite reassuring to hear others have the same.Let us know if you hear anything or if it improves. I hardly dare look and keep hoping it will go but still there!
I must admit I am still freaking out about it - it doesn't 'feel' normal. The good news is that this morning I am seeing a gynaecologist so I will let you know what they say x
Hi Angela. Do you mind me asking what operation you've had? I saw my surgeon a few weeks ago, anterior and posterior repair and vaginal hysterectomy on May 4th, and she said I too need to wait to fully heal before she can assess my bladder, and slight leaking. I recovered so well, was in very little pain so thought I was doing brilliantly but now I just want to know, 'has it worked'? Until I have the go ahead to return to activities I won't know?

I had an enterocele and sacro stitch at top of vaginal vault (bowel prolapse in two places). It has taken me a long time to recover. I have had operations previously for hysterectomy and adhesions and burst appendix so surgeon said it would take a while to recover. I am managing now to do everyday things (I have a seven year old ) but get very tired by the end of day still with slight dragging feeling
Hi Sheila. I saw my surgeon today for a follow up. I thought you would like to know that the 'brain' we can see is completely normal. It's ok for it to be visible and in fact when it's higher up in the vagina we can be more prone to leaking. So good news

Thanks for telling me what your surgeon said about urethral sponge-that certainly makes me feel a little better about it but still a bit weird!
I feel ok about it now. The surgeon was very convincing. I'm more worried about being 4 weeks post op and being able to feel things down there. I was expexpectinh to feel nothing after op. Hope it's just sensations of swelling and stitches
