I am a 42year old male, I had a road traffic accident in my 1999 when I was 23 years old. I was left with a Urethral stricture where the urethra joins the bladder. I received Urethral dilatition twice yearly u til 2006. My urologist refered me to another urologist in Ireland who preformed a urethplasty which was ok and lasted until August 2017, when I had to have another dilatation,this is April 2018 and I’ve just had another dilatation and have catheter in for another 2weeks. Anyone else have this recurring after urethra plasty and what issues have you had while the catheter inserted for such periods of time.id appreciate your feedback.
In my experience, personal as well as professional, any surgical intervention or instrumentation, ie, dilitations, catheters on the urethra can result in more scarring and further obstruction of urine flow. Search for a urologist who specializes in plastic repair of the urethra using buccal mucosa (tissue from the inside of the mouth) to replace the scarred urethra. That worked for me following years of dilations and very poor flow and urgency. Good Luck!
hi shuteye,this is my problem I had the urethra plasty and they took skin from inside of my mouth. But a second stricture has occurred from this operation.im to young for this sxxx. I’ve contacted a doctor in Birmingham and he can see me as he performs hundreds of these operations yearly. Is it worth my while seeing him ?. It so frustrating
Hi Marko19, It's always a good idea to get a second opinion, I think. Perhaps scarring isn't the main issue and a cysto (visualization) of the problem might be warranted. See what the Birmingham Doc says to help settle your mind. Once again,good luck with this.
