is there any permanent cure available for Uretharal Stricture.i have undergone internal urethrotomy twice and recently Jan 2018.
As of now the flow has not improved and burning sensation is there.
is this will get improved over period of time and what is the chances to prevent recurrence.
I had limited success with urethrotomies so I had what's called a "buccal mucosal urhetroplasty" in which the strictured urethra region is removed and replaced by an "artificial" urethra formed from cheek skin from inside my mouth. Luckily, I had the surgery done by a urologist that specializes in the surgeries. It's been 21 months since the surgery and my flow is much, much better than pre-surgery. It's a very invasive surgery that required me to keep a cath in for a month and take a month off of work. The pain only required opioids for less than a week after surgery. More info can be found at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urethroplasty.
You said your flow is not good...what is your rate of flow?
Hi there I had the same opp around the same time as urself do u still have any pain? and do u fell the flow has got slower as the week go on ?
I think the flow has gotten slightly slower since the first flow test after the surgery but that have been due to the dilation from having a 16 or 18 french catheter in for a month. In addition, the retorgrade and anterograde urethrograms last May (I think) showed that about half the graft had spontaneously constricted again. The surgeon was talking about doing the surgery again but with a "muscle bed" (taken from thigh muscle) ventral to the graft. I wasn't too keen on that, given what I had already gone through. My urologist said as long as I was happy with the flow rate, she was okay with just doing another urethrogram this May. I no longer have any pain either under normal conditions or when I'm riding my bike, which I'm sure caused the original constriction. I've got a lot invested in special bike saddles but as long as they help keep the constriction from recurring, I'm not going to complain.
Thansk for those who have responded.i have not taken any Uroflow test neither before not after the procedure and the urologist as well not conveyed to do so.
i know urethrotomy has very less success rate but the Urologist are not recommending for the Urethroplasty considering the size of the strcture (1-1.2 cm) and i heard that this should be done for those who have longer size .
i am waiting and i hope in the coming weeks the flow will get increased and will come back to normal.
Request all the individual to post there individual experience and it will be great if any body has very few recurrence rate and what has been done by them to make it happen.
I had the same surgery using buccal mucosa, performed by a urologist specially trained in urethral repair, in 2004 and although the flow has diminished a bit since then, my stream is still much improved compared to pre-op. My post-op experience was much the same as yours. I have no more pain on urination but the frequency and urgency issues remain. I feel that I empty more efficiently if I sit but still stand as the need arises.
Still no improvement .while the flow seems to be improving the burning sensation around the bladder region and in the urethra has not come down .
Any suggestions.i have been given antibitic/potassium citrate/uri kind but no much help of this .
Two stones are also identified 4 mm and 6 mm .not sure if these symptoms are due to that
