Urolift in 4 weeks ...............

I am 60 next month, have a recently checked normal PSA and a small benign prostate - suitable for the urolift procedure. I am having the flexible cystoscopy next week to check there is no third lobe.

I go to the loo - a lot - tried Tamsulosin and Finasteride, the latter for 12 months - worked at first - but made me feel totally asexual. I do not feel that my symptoms warrant TURP or Laser surgery, for all the risks involved.

I can get the Urolift paid for on medical insurance in the UK - but I just swither - I could go on with no surgery but am inclined to proceed as I have the opportunity.

Can anyone tell me their views on Urolift - I am using the Spire Hospital in Farnham - any experiences ?

Many thanks

Ian C

One question about urolift:They out the stents in the prostate and you will urinate well. But according to what I have read this lasts for only 1-2 years and the you are back to square one.Either you have to do the procedure again or go for TURP.But happens to the stents?Do they embedded in the prostate foerever? What are the consequences of that? Can they be removed without hurting the penis? I asked the urologist thses questions but his nurse practioner said" we don't know? !!

I studied the procedure recently.  The procedure takes about 15 to 25 minutes under local.  Good point by the other blogger, what happens to the anchors if another procedure is done?  It appears safe, no sexual dysfunction problems.  Done in doctor's office.  Don't necessary need to have TURP later.  There are other procedures with less downside/complications.

Hopefully you will have read the discussion and comments I started on Urolift called :The Urolift procedure; patient views and questions

I plan to add a 3/4 month update soon but for the moment you are wrong to say this only last 2 years. It is only 2 years into trials and durability is therefore guaranteed/known to be OK for that time. I believe the results of the 3rd year are due soon which will confirm no problems after 3 years and hopefully this will go on for many years.
