Urolift unsuccessful - BPH symptoms returned in 2 days

I was excited to have the Urolift procedure performed as there are hardly any consequences versus other alternatives to relieve BHP issues. I had less than 2 days of relief when my symptoms (frequent urination) returned. Has anyone else experienced this & what has transpired? I have been told I have a large prostate but not sure over 80 g. Can the Urolift procedure be performed again? Thanks for your help.

it is too early to know how it has gone. wait for some weeks/months. i had a second operation about 6 months later where a tag was removed and 2 more put in. don’t you have any advice from your urologist?

Urolift unsuccessful is very common, why even bother to have a redo, unless you are very afraid of retro ejaculation ?

When you say a “tag” do you mean a - staple? Thanks.

I am not familiar with the term “retro ejaculation”.
Neo-Trac (the company that pioneered the Urolift procedure) assured me the operation has never has never been unsuccessful. I guess I was lied to. Thanks.

yes. do you have a urologist? what is their advice?

2 days after mine I was still going very frequently due to bladder spasms. You need to see how it is after 2 to 4 weeks.
It worked for around 6 months but the prostate has pushed up around the clips so now I am waiting for a TURP. I also have constant pain since the Urolift; the uro had no idea why and didn’t seem interested in finding out.
There are planty of failed urolift anecdotes on here. Urolift is OK for smaller prostates; for larger ones PAE works well.

Would it not be better if there was research on the cause of BPH and it’s prevention?

Unless they mean “all patients survived” is “successful”, yes, they lied to you. Don’t feel bad. It’s just salesmanship.
Retro ejaculation (RE) is when you ejaculate, semen don’t come out of your penis, but going into the bladder instead. It makes it difficult to get a woman pregnant. The good thing is less mess to clean up.

Can you explain what “PAE” is please? Thanks.

With all the lying from the company & the surgeon not advsing of the potential unsuccessful results, haven’t there been medical malpractice suits concerning Urolift? Thanks.

That would be great! Thanks.

Prostate Artery Embolism; google it or search on these forums. Its good for larger (> 80g ) prostates.

My Urolift in March has not worked as far as the urine flow. My major problem is an over-active bladder and am trying drugs for that; and I have changed Urologists.

What are you taking for OAB? I was on various drugs for 20 years, that last 5 or 6 on 5mg oxybutinen twice a day. It helped minimize the spasms but didn’t really reduce the frequency issues. I was able to stop taking oxyb… after my TURP. The spasms are greatly reduced and I can deal with them now because I don’t worry about voiding difficulties if I wait too long.
