Urolift

Would like to hear from those who’ve had this procedure.

The good, bad and the ugly.  Thanks

Hi Johnny. l had Urolift done by Dr. Strumeyer in Millburn, NJ on June 28.  I have BPH and was in retention for one full month prior to that with a catheter undergoing tests and a biopsy (negative).

After the operation, They left the catheter in for a few days  while my prostate healed up.  It came out on July 5 and I've peed comfortably and actually better than at any time in the last few years since then. Sex is better too.  No side effects except  pain on the day of the operation.  If your doctor says you're a good candidate DO IT.

Instead of lifting the prostate off the bladder, you could ask about PAE (which blocks arteries feeding the prostate with the aim of causing the prostate to shrink - and press less on the bladder).  I had this a month ago. Initial results - less peeing in the night, and stronger flow - seem good.  I wont know until a repeat MRI in another month whether the prostate has actually shrunk.  No surgery involved and less resulting infection were reasons I chose it.

Good morning Johnny.....Urolift works very well.  I had mine done 3 1/2 years ago.  Still wide open.  Have had no  problem.  Once in a while they come up going the the x ray at the airport.  If I have to I would do it again  Take care  Ken

Had a urolift last March.  Worked like gangbusters for about six weeks, then slowly stopped working, so I thought it had failed.  Got a CT scan of my bladder and found I had a huge bladder diverticulum that was pressing against the prostate.  Got that out of the way and the urolift was working again without a problem.  My bottom line: almost painless procedure, I had a cath for one day, and was back to work two days after that.  I'd highly recommend it.

Had Urolift and Bladder stone removal 14 months ago. Done in outpatient surgical center under IV sedation. Had catheter placed for two days which I removed at home as instructed. No real pain just mild soreness. No pain medication was needed. Sex at two and a half weeks was slightly painful but by a week later it was fine.  Lots of bloody urine for first few days but that was pretty well gone within a week. Sore to sit for extended periods of time for first couple of months. I had a minor UTI that was treated with antibiotics at 3 months post op. Nothing since. I realize no treatment is successful for everyone but

I am glad I did Urolift as opposed to other forms of treatment for BPH.  Good luck to you no matter what form of treatment you decide upon.

All the best. Tom

How big was your postate? In what way is sex better?

Just one thought jonnyringo. With urolift no prostate tissue is removed. It is compressed.

I think I was 70.  I'm off the dutasteride tamsulosin so no more retrograde ejaculation.

John that was good news.  Has anyone had problem getting e-mail  I have not had any for 2 days.  Tried the help line but no answer yet   Ken

Ken, how long were you on dutasteride tamsulosin ? Hank

Over a year. Alfuzosin prior to that

If youre refering to emails about post or PMs I haven't gotten those for months. This site is quirky and poorly laid out if you're searching for new posts in a very long thread

Yes I am.  I do not get any e-mail at all in my in box..  I got a e-mail from them and it said that I have them set in spam.  I don't get any there either  I am waiting for them to e-mail again.  The way I have to do it.  I saved a post from last week and then go to the top of the page then I can see if something came through.  I don't know  It's the pits.  Take care  Ken
