US scan of abdomen

Hi just wondering if someone knew what this meant please, my doctor said something about my bile duct from the gallbladder could have problems, but why does it say (the CBD is dilated at 11 mm but could not followed out to the head of pancreas) if it's hte gallbladder.

US scan of abdomen Clinical History : Chronic cholelithiasis

The liver is normal in size, contour and echogenicity. No

focal lesion seen. No intra hepatic duct dilatation seen.

As before, the gallbladder could not be positively

identified which could be due to location, overlying bowel

gas or pathology. The CBD is dilated at 11 mm but could not

followed out to the head of pancreas due to extensive bowel

gas.

Normal size and appearances of the spleen and both kidneys.

Normal appearance of the pancreas.

Normal calibre aorta.

SUMMARY: Again non visualisation of the gallbladder with

extra hepatic duct dilatation seen.

You have a previous diagnosis of gallstones.

You liver looks normal.

They could not see your gallbladder clearly either due to gas (wind) in your bowels or that, in your case, your gallbladder is hidden by other organs (we are all different on the inside as well as outwardly).

Your bile duct appears larger than it should (probably due to gallstones irritating it). They could not see it as far as the pancreas due to trapped wind.

Spleen, kidneys and pancreas all appear normal. Also the aorta (main artery to the heart).

Summary: you have gallstones, some of which have escaped and lie in your common bile duct (links gallbladder, liver and pancreas to bowels) and are irritating your common bile duct. They can't see your gallbladder to see if it looks normal.

This sounds like a normal ultrasound of someone with gallstones which is a very common condition. You don't state what symptoms you're having or the reason for ultrasound, but if youre having upper right pain, right shoulder pain, wind, nausea, sickness and diarrhoea you will probably need surgery in the near future as hanging onto a sick gallbladder is very risky.

Can I suggest you eat a low fat diet meantime: avoid fatty foods, baked goods except bread, processed foods like sausages, bacon and ham,  and alcohol, and eat reduced fat dairy like reduced fat cheese, spreads (flora light) and 0% fat yogurt. No takeaways or pizzas. Also cut down on portion size as overloading your stomach causes painful bloating. In this way you may be able to reduce your symptoms until you get surgery. Be prepared for a long wait as there are loads of patients in a similar position to yourself. Sorry you're having these problems.

Hi I have had gallstones for 20 years use to get pain but not had any for a long time it was because of my liver function test one reading come back high this one ----> Serum alkaline phosphatase level 142 iu/L [30.0 - 130.0]

I don't eat much because of my acid reflux is so bad. This year i have been sent to hospital about my tounge / prostate / and told i have emphysema seems like i am falling apart.
