Using exercise bike part 2

Hello all

A couple of weeks ago I got some good advice on here about using a static bike and I just thought I would update you as to my progress. I first tried it at mid week 5, just a few rotations but it hurt and so I stopped. However, at the end of week 6 I tried again and found it to be much more comfortable. I started with sessions of about 3 minutes on low resistance, but have quickly worked up to 3 sessions of 10 minutes per day on mid resistance and I really feel it is strengthening my leg. I do find it incredibly boring unless I can prop my book up to read as I go! So my experience has definitely been a positive one and I shall continue with this for some time.

Good healing to you all.

Steph

Steph,

I agree, very useful for building leg strength, but most boring, I put the radio on Classic FM, and chatted and waved to our parrot who think's that we use the exercise bike just for her entertainment.

Keep up the good work.

Best wishes

Graham

I was thinking about getting one. My physical therapist said it would be really good for me. I am glad it is working well for you. Thanks for sharing and good luck healing...Barb

Thanks Steph,

I was given the all clear today to start using the static bike.  I'm going to give it a try tomorrow....

Thanks - will give it another go.

Thanks.

Hi Steph.

After both my THRs I used a stationary bike, like you I started with just 5-10mins a day, slowly increasing the time and resistance.

Within 3 months I was up to doing 20k in 1hour.

I never had any other physio, and imo the bike is the best exercise there is for us hippies.

18months on and I'm now cycling 40k on my MTB..a mix of off and on road.

Apparentely the off road is good at building bone mass to help prevent future osteoporosis, something professional cyclists suffer from in later life.

As you say the static bike is very boring, you just have to be disciplined and focus on the long term benefits.

Once you venture outside you'll start to enjoy it and the overall health benefits apart from the joints make it well worth the effort.

Persevere and don't give up,even when it hurts.

The best of luck Paul.
