I have fibroids which have been with my since my 40s. I did not want a hyterectomy, the only thing offered to me 20 plus years ago,. Periods have cease thank goodness, I was very unwell for years but ploughed on! Now I wonder whether the fibroids cause bladder probs and if I should have them romved, they are pretty large- or anyh other ideas? These groups are so helpful
Hi elainerose
So sorry to hear you have been suffering so long with fibroid do you know how big your fibroid is? I'm 3 weeks post op meyomectomy and it was best decision I made my fibroid was 15cm and weigh just under 6 pounds. I was saw at least 5 different consultant and tried to see if I could go none surgery route first but mine was to big for those. There was alot of pressure on me to have a hysterectomy by all consultant I saw, but I stood my ground and my consultant was able to save my womb.
I understand that my fibroid could grow bk but at the age of 30 I did not want to face menopause early. My recovery has been going really well and I'm happy that iv made the right choice for me. I would explore all your options first hysterectomy really should be last resort. Oh and yes fibroids can put pressure on your bladder mine did was like being pregnant. Please don't suffer there are few options out there which iv notice if you don't suggest them the dr will just say hysterectomy
Take care
Thanks. I did suffer hugely in my 40 s and was determined not to have s hysterectomy. Glad I did. It's positive that other options are now available for this debilitating prob. How was the mymectomy ? Longprocess and recovery ? I wish you well.
Hi elainerose
It took yr to get the op, and wow all I can say for me it was so worth it I'm feeling good!! For me the whole op is not has bad has dr make out by trying to scare and make you believe that hysterectomy is the only option. I'm just thankful to god for taking me through this whole process not much pain at all really I wud say if you r not suffering with the fibroid and it's not growing then you may just want to leave it.
But if you are suffering and it's effecting your day to life mentally and physically like it was me im telling you things were bad bad for me. I would say get rid explore all option don't suffer I just wish I had the courage to get rid sooner.
All the best I'm sure you will make the right decision for you x
