Does anyone else find that their UTI's can be made worse or even brought on by stress? I have had a few stressful situations over the last 12 months and I have found that I seem to go down with a UTI at the same tim, it may just be coincidence of course, I just wondered if anyone else had found similar happened to them?
LOL yes I know what you mean, I know that ultimately they are caused by bacteria it's just so weird that each time I get really stressed about something then you can almost guarantee a uti will crop up as well, guess I'm just 'lucky' that way. .
Stress seems to aggravate my bladder. I’ve had a history of countless uti’s since age 20, so my bladder does have a weakness and being upset and stressed often creates bladder spasms.
My mum always said the weakest part of the body will feel the stress most. In my case - bladder! But not sure if stress brings the infection? It certainly weakens the immune system.
Stress is what a doctor suggests when they cannot diagnose something.
If you are getting repeat UTIs, have you had a UroDynamics Test or been checked for Cauda Equina Slow Onset? (UCLH is about the only UK hospital that does the check as far as I know.)
If you have been noticing odd leg problems that might be to do with your calf then Cauda Equina issues are quite likely.
One pattern I have noticed is the more I walk over a hard surface, the more likely I am to get a UTI days later.
My doctor hasn't suggested that stress is contributing towards my UTI's it's me who wondered about it as they always seem to crop up at about the same time, no leg problems at all, I do lot of walking come rain or shine.
with my last experience it seemed that the UTI and its treatment brought back some of the symptoms of perimenopause like internal vibrations and high BP that had become milder
My blood pressure is always higher when I’ve got a Bladder Infection. And My stress level becomes out of control when I’m infected because the pain is unbearable. Stress probably will intensify uti symptoms 😩
Hey sorry to hear you’re going through this! I too have have a stressful 12 months I have had more UTIs since last year than I ever had before! I have been stressed out since last week and not been able to eat much now I feel I have a uti, I’m worried I’m losing weight abs whenever I get antibiotics I can’t eat while I take them so it’s even more stressful, I find that stress does trigger UTIs because it messes with the way your immune system functions, please let me know if anyone has a solution to help??? Thank you 😊
I think you should be cautious about assuming repeat UTIs are linked to stress, a more likely explanation is a blocakage (maybe a kidney stone) or your baldder is not fully evacuating which could be CES Slow Onset...and it can include any of these things - repeat UTIs, bowel issues - constipation or the reverse, thigh, calf and foot weakness and/or pain.
My GP has been banging on about stress for years, then I find he has not diagnosed CES Slow Onset when he should have....
I think you and others are right about the immune system, my immune system has been out of sync ever since my hysterectomy 3 years ago, also my UTI's have a lot to do with the lack of oestrogen as well, my GP wanted to give cream for that but my Gynacologist said no. I do think that it is just coincidental that when I am stressed these things occur, I am currently looking for good suppliments to help the immune system.
