Vagifem for vaginal atrophy

The GP thinks ongoing vaginal pain is caused by dryness/atrophy (I'm 20 years past the menopause!).

We are trying vagifem while waiting for an ultrasound to make sure there is nothing else going on.

Has anyone used this and how did it go?

As an alternative she says full on HRT is still a possibility even at 62 (maybe another discussion there)

Just been prescribed this because I asked for it. How are you getting on with it and how often do you use it please

Hi Sus28, I have just been prescribed vagifem, on day 6 now. Haven't noticed much improvement yet. Still feel like I'm sitting on a hedgehog!!!

I know that feeling too well.

Well................day 8 and things feeling a little moist. Think its working!!!

Let's pray that it is. I been chatting with another VA lady and she uses natural

Coconut oil for moisture and uses it all the time. So just ordered some from amazon. Better to have a bit of relief than a hedgehog!,!haha

If the coconut oil doesn't work Sue let me know. I have a fantastic date slice recipe that uses it! At least we can comfort eat!!

Hehehe!!! Well there's one thing if you use that you can eat it. Also if it doesn't work we can slap it on as sun tan cream like we did in the 60s. It's a wonder we ain't all got another form of skin disorder from that.

Will let you know but it's a weeks delivery

Hello, how are you getting on these days?

i have just had a vaginal ring inserted . It is a 24 hour estradiol delivery system which can help to repair the skin in my vagina which suffers from vaginal atrophy. Have you heard of this. It is not a miracle cure but seems to repair the skin

Hi

Newbie here.

Been suffering from VA (only just diagnosed recently though) for a number of years and it's put a massive strain on my marriage.

Have been using Gynest for 3 weeks.

My GP told me to use Gynest every day for 2 weeks, then twice a week for 2 weeks then once a week for 2 weeks, then once every other week.

She said a lot of women who use it and stop taking it once they feel better find it gets worse again.

My internal itch (which is what I went to the doctor for) turned into a dreadful external itch after using Gynest for 2 weeks. Not sure if there is a connection.

Anyway, it seems i have a UTI and started taking Trimethoprim yesterday so I hope that clears it up.

I was very interested in the mention of coconut oil (thanks Sus28) and Googled it.

I've bought some organic cold pressed coconut oil from Tesco.

I just wondered if anyone knew if you use it still in its solid form or if you need to liquify it.

Just out of interest, I found a website that listed 101 uses for coconut oil and it seems to be a cure-all wonder product.

Here's some of the (medical) things it's supposed to help:

Topically to kill yeast or yeast infections

As a natural personal lubricant that won’t disturb vaginal flora

Can be used to speed healing of fungal infections when taken internally and used externally

Can be used internally and externally to speed recovery from UTIs

Naturally clears up cold sores

WOW!

So, despite the fact that I gag at the smell of Malibu, Bounty bars & any food that has the slightest amount of coconut in it, I'm going to give this stuff a real go.

Thanks ladies.

Ha ha, made me laugh. Found it ok but it does stain yer clothes, so much so that my fella asked me had I had an accident!!!!

I became sensitive to gynest. Some days I felt like I was sitting on a hedgehog!

Found vagifem ok and now have the vaginal ring which I have written about in previous posts recently.

. It's great to share ideas and unfortunately I find, as others do, the problem is never ending. Very debilitating. Especially,  at 63 when you have the time and  energy for a lovely loving relationship. The oil melts the second it touches warm skin.

Thanks sus28 for info about using coconut oil.

Would you use it every day or only before sex? Sorry if my question is too blunt (but I feel like I'm seeing a tiny speck of light at the end of a very, very long tunnel).

I'll bear in mind potential staining - are very light panty liners OK or should I invest in extra long heavy duty?

Did you look at the '101 uses for coconut oil'?

I find it incredible that something that can soften & condition leather can help 'down below' (or then again maybe not LOL).

I would use KY  for  intercourse. Coconut oil to moisten. Trial and error with the panty liners. But when you are at home you can put plenty on. I know what it feels like when you share info. We are so desperate for comfort and yet do not often find yor answer from the doctors. I find something works for a while with me then I go sensitive and gave to go back to the drawing board, so to speak. Will look at the 101 uses. Suppose natural is best. Oh also can use Vaseline on the outside if you gave had a  small tear, which can happen with AV

Thanks for that, Sus28.

I'm feeling really down today because my itch (internal) is back.

I was fine yesterday and really thought I'd turned a corner. sad

Ooooohhhhh de ar. The whole state affairs can be so debilitating.

I have just purchased from Boots. A cream someone on forum talked about. Multi-Gyn actigel, it is on sale near gels, condoms.

gonna give it a try. Billed as having a soothing effect on itch and irritations.

That's interesting, Sus28.

I'll make a note of that & take a look next time I'm in Boots.

I've not tried the coconut oil yet as I want to get rid of the itch first then concentrate on moisurising.

Thanks

I used it and ground it successfulsuccessful

Hope you feel a bit better now, it is Tuesday. We can never really be sure if it will be better or worse!

That should read found it successful, I pad changed letters!

I have a vaginal ring now for oestrogen, but I did like the vagifem.

Hi Sus28

I was itch-free all day Monday & Tuesday.

Last night I used Gynest (I'm just moving onto the once per week phase) and the damn itch (external) is BACK!!

Thanks for asking.

I wonder if I'm intolerant (my OH would say I am! LOL) of any of the ingredients.

I know you said you became sensitive to it.

Also, I'm feeling so down - and I don't think it's just the itch.

One of the side-effects seems to be depression and I just can't seem to see the positive side to anything at all and just can't get motivated to do anything.

I'm not ME!

Did you any similar feelings?
