Started out as burning then went to feeling like I was sitting on sandpaper now it is just miserable discomfort. Occasionally lightens up but never goes away. Been using Premarin cream for a few months. Feeling very discouraged. Can not live like this forever. Anyone have any thoughts?
Hi Fern
Ask your doctor about Vagifem. It really helps to feel normal again. Did you make sure you don't have UTI? I started with Estrace for 14 days then doctor had me start Vagifem 2xweek. It takes several weeks to feel normal again...but you will get there! Keep us posted.

Use coconut oil to moisturise too, has really helped me.
I have exactly the same thing I am so nervous because I have a long car drive to ontario and I am worried I have tried a lot on products they made me burn more even hormones which I don’t like because they can cause cancer I saw a male gynocologist and still no help he just kept prescribing hormones which did not help me at all,I sure is frustrating
and it hurts a lot especially when I sit here in canada you need recommendations to see a specialist so that means lots of taxis it costs so much but i am dearate our health care is a problem
hope you feel better soon
I should say I am desperate
Hi Sheila
My heart goes out to you. Have you been diagnosed with Atrophic Vaginitis? As mentioned my doctor started me on the Estrace cream for 14 days then started me on Vagifem vaginally 2x weekly. Sometimes I would apply a small amount of Estrace cream on the outside if feeling much discomfort. It takes a few weeks to really heal. The small amount of hormone in Vagifem stays local. Honestly for most of us.... Vagifem is what works to heal the AV. Some ladies need Vagifem more than 2x weekly depending on the severity. I hope this may help and you will get help soon. You will feel normal again you just need proper help and some time. Try hard not to stress.
please keep us posted

HI fern77607, i know exactly what your going through, as suggested try the vagifem, this does really help, If for some reason you dont get on with this and have to stop using them like i did then try the gel called multygyn by a company called stress no more. since ive been using this ive had no soreness at all. pm me for link if you would like it. Try the vagifem first though as its available on prescription.

Hi Fern,
i feel your pain, I have exactly the same thing. I have been suffering with AV for almost two years, I have tried all the creams available and although they work for a while they are not a long term remedy. I am currently using Vagifem twice weekly sometimes they help and sometimes I feel they are just making things worse, I have also used coconut oil which worked for a couple of months but now it just leaves me with a burning sensation. I too feel I cannot live like this. I am going to see my GP tomorrow and hopefully get a referral back to my gynaecologist to review my medication. I will keep you informed as to whether or not I am given any information on medication which may help you. All I have been told so far is that this condition is something I have to learn to live with.
Best wishes,
Sheila
Hi Shiela
some ladies need to take more Vagifem weekly. I am on 2x week but know others that need 3x and some 5x weekly. Yes, please let us know what your doctor recommends for you. I know that my GYN said that I will probably be on Vagifem for the rest of my life. 🙁 but thankful that it gives me quality of life.
Wendy
Yes I have strophic vaginitis but I guess the gyno only comes to my clinic once a week and he didn’t seem to know too much about it or he just wasn’t interested
thank you for caring I have to go now and pick up papers for another clinic
Hi Shiela
i hope you are able to get a good doctor that knows the best treatment for AV and that CARES......that is so important. AV can be horrible to live with but if you get the right help we can live healthy normal lives without suffering! Getting our quality of life back is so important! I wish you the best...keep us posted!
Blessings,
Wendy
I will keep you posted
There are lots of different treatments available so you could ask your doctor to consider changing your cream or prescribe Vagifem pessaries if appropriate. Don’t wash down below with soap and avoid bubble bath etc. Make sure you drink plenty water so your urine does not become too concentrated and sting your delicate areas. You could also ask your doctor to prescribed a vaginal moisturiser like Replens or Yes to use in conjunction with hormone cream or pessaries.
It really is trial and error to find what is best for you.
Take care of yourself.
Thank you Sheila. Please let me know what your dr says. Being told u have to live with this is unexceptable!
