Hi, I had a vaginal hysterectomy on 20th July so am now 5 weeks post op. I was told to do nothing for 6 weeks, and definitely no heavy lifting for 3 months due to risk of prolapse, so no shopping. I started walking quite early and have no trouble with that but I do get bad pains if I do to much of anything. Listen to your body if it doesn't like it stop. I also bled at 3 weeks and think this is normal I believe it is to do with the stitches dissolving. Really you should be doing as little as possible still but we all know that that isn't always possible.

Thank you think may be I need to listen to my body then as think I may be doing to much thank you for your advice x

Hi

I just had a vaginal hysterectomy yesterday. Everyone told me 6weeks, no lifting or housework. Actually no work at all.

I feel pretty good, cant wait to go home today as the nurses are great but they seem to come by every 2hrs, so between my peeing all the time because of the iv and the other lady I share a room with talking I feel like I got no sleep.

Good luck to you. I am glad my surgery is over.

Hi glad your doing OK nurses where good to me as well, keep me up dated how how you go please. It's so hard not doing anything family and friends have being a big help x

It is going to be so hard for me not to clean my house and laundry etc, I am one of those women that enjoys it. Lol. I have a great husband though and he is going to do his best to help. The nurses are great but nothing is better then going home. I have a 7yr old son and I look forward to having some time off with him before school starts. I work a lot and life is always so rushed, so I intend to listen and have a break.

Keep in touch if anything unusual develops or even if not! I think this is a great way to share experiences with others, it has helped me a lot.

Yes am the same love cleaning lol , hope you can go home today I was only in 1night but never left hospital till about 7 pm.I will keep in touch x

As others have said, don't do too much! Did they not send you home with a leaflet? Only lifting a kettle with 2 cups of water in it for the first week at least.

It really is not worth trying to do too much! You will be back in hospital, and end up taking a LOT longer to get right.

Let others do the housework if you can....delegate!

That didn't happen here - neanderthal hubby....but i just thought to hell with it...I am not making myself ill for anyone!

5 weeks poast op now, and not feeling too bad.

Hi yes got leaflet but wanted to see how everyone had got on, partner was great at first but now getting arse with having to do stuff, are u cookingmeals and washing pots? X

Some blokes are just not cut out for domesticity, are they. lol. Or if they are, it doesn't last long.

I made sure I had lots of food in the freezer...spag bols, curries, chilli, etc, so I could just get it out, defrost, and serve with rice/spagetti, etc.

The old man washed up....I just left it, and he had no choice! Didn't last long, though. Ten days, tops. Still not lifting, pushing or pulling. Those things you must keep away from, or you will do yourself no good. xx

I think it depends. I had my surgery yesterday morning, this afternoon I did a load of laundry and tomorrow after my shower I am looking forward to a nice walk with my dog. I sm being careful as I dont want to hurt myself but I like to be useful. I feel tired more often than usual.....

This doing nothing is harder than said.

WHAT!??? Marketa, you must have the pain threshold of an elephant.....but seriously, you are doing yourself some damage. If the hospital knew what you were doing, they would have a FIT! Please consult your Doctor before you do anything else.

My pain threshold is good, and granted, I had a TAH, but the day after surgery I could only shuffle to the bathroom for a wee.

Morning I thought the same when so message please please go careful you won't do yourself any good trust me!!!! Hope your doing OK vauxhall girl x

Hi Theresa. Not doing too bad, thanks. Hope you are taking it easy as much as possible. I am off into the bloomin rain now. Can't believe this crummy weather.....August???

Hi tum still sore and bloated was u like that 3 weeks in, yes weather not great but think it's going to get better! Kids go back next week and it always gets better when there back lol x

Yes Theresa, still sore and bloated at your stage. The bloating can go on for a while I am afraid. Not me personally, but reading around here, some women still got the "swelly belly" a couple of months down the line. Like a lot of things medical, it changes from one person to the next.

If you overdo it, that will make it swell, so keep away from lifting, pushing and pulling, and it will help. x

No worries here! I have a tough europen background lol!

I am really ok. My face swelled up for some reason so just laying here with a washcloth on my face. My dog Monty has not left my side. I got my son ready for day camp this morning and that felt good. I do plan to rest today and watch reruns if Greys anatomy.

Pain threshold of an elephant? Lol! Thanks for the laugh, that is so funny.

Don't laugh too hard...think of the stitches.
