Vaginal sores but negative swab

for the past year i have been told and under the impression that i have genital hsv. my first swab came back inconclusive. but doctor gave me valtrex anyways. i went to walk in care friday because i had another single sore in the same spot (which has happened about 4 times in the last year) the doctor swabbed it for hsv and it came back negative. my SO also got a single sore one time. the sore is always painful to touch and burns if pee gets on it, also itchy to touch. i always get yeast infections as well. any advise on what could cause me and my SO to both get a single sore if the hsv result came back negative?

if ur swab results are negative u dont have herpes it could be anything yeast can cause the skin to peel and become sore etc

to be sure your swab is conclusive make sure you get them done within 48 hours or results wont be accurate. and if youre sure its herpes get a blood test as well

i read that if its over 48 hours of symptoms it may be a false negative. i still had an open sore when she swabbed it. does that count as a symptom? the sore had been there for about 5 days though.

i took medication for a yeast infection and bv that night and its been 2 days now and its gone.

take a blood test since its been a year it’ll be conclusive

oh no. 5 days is definitely not reliable. even if the sore is still there. the 48 hour window is where the viral cells are still present and can be collected on the swab. after that all/most cells are pretty much gone. so just get a blood test
