Guys - anyone able to share experiences with varicocelectomy either microsurgical or laparoscopic?
What were the long term effects both good and bad from the surgery?
Guys - anyone able to share experiences with varicocelectomy either microsurgical or laparoscopic?

Had microsurgical varicocelectomy nearly 3 months ago. Mine was said to be a bit more complicated and challenging due to having IVC syndrome putting extra pressure on the veins in my lower body.
Was told I'd be able to return to normal activities within 2 weeks. the recovery from the surgery pain was closer to 5-6 weeks and I still have pain similar to what I did prior to the operation. Very sensitive testicle. Now waiting to see a pain specialist. Overall the surgery was said to be a success but I don't feel any better for having had it yet. Still find it hard to do normal activities and the pain makes sleeping difficult. Bit disappointed overall. Upside is stronger erections but then sex can still be pretty painful so not sure how much of a benefit that is.
My pains not as bad as the guy above me, but i had the micro surgery aswell. And it didnt fix my pain at all, were all diferent. The surgery actually made 1 testicle get biger and 1 tesricle get smaller. I told my urologist this and he said deal with it and deal with the pain, why are u getting the surgery do u have pain?
Thanks Jimbo - is the pain is caused from the surgery or do you think it is the same as what you had previously? Did the varicocele heal as a result of the surgery?
Sucks it's effecting your sleep. Have you tried anti inflammatories like cucurmin, msm or magnesium? What type of pain is it that your experiencing?
Thanks for the reply Rory. I read one of your other posts and sorry to hear you're having pain. Similar question to Jimbo above, do you think it's a result of the surgery or the same pain you had before the op (ie things just didnt get better)?
I've read of people having one testicle increase in size but not one shrink. Do you know if the guy also cut the artery along with the veins?
The reason I'm asking is that i had an embolisation done about 6 months ago for a left side varicocele. It didn't help and I've had ongoing abdominal pain and other symptoms since. I suspect these are related to the embolisation. A potential allergic reaction. I'm hoping to have them removed if the symptoms don't die down and the closest comparable operation would be a laparoscopic varicocelectomy.
Whilst i suspect it I'm not 100% if my issues are down to the embolisation materials so was looking to see how others have got on with a similar op. My understanding is that whilst the procedure is different, the end result is the same for both a varicocelectomy and an embolisation in that the entire gonadal vein occludes and dies. Trying to reconcile if the result of the procedure can cause other issues to rule out side effects of killing a vein. Also hoping to hear that some people have had a good result and it's improved their health as a result! Has to be some out there otherwise they wouldn't do it i guess.
I had micro surgery and it didn't work at all. It was incredibly painful afterwards too. I had an embolization and that got rid of it. If I was to recommend a treatment I would definitely pick embolization over micro surgery.
Hi, I've suffered testicle pain for 14 years, and I'm due to have micro varicocelectomy surgery next week. They cant guarantee the surgery will work, and say it could actually make the pain worst, so I'm thinking of cancelling. I turned down the embolisation procedure because of all the horror stories that I have come across, it seems we are damned if we do, and damned if we don't.
Hi Jimbo48199, Is your testicle pain due to the operation, or pain that you already had? Is your pain in left or right testicle, or both? Do you ever suffer pain down your legs?
Hi We5t. Honestly hard to say, I already had testicle pain and then had it after the operation. Left side only. And yes I do get pain down my left leg which is related to my overall vascular issues.
It's been two and a half years since my surgery and it is still not 100% and the pain clinic were bloody useless. I've been able to fix a lot of my health issues and greatly reduce my pain though. Wim Hof method, keto/carnivore diet, regular swimming and ice baths have all helped me where the medical profession failed.
