Vertigo and tamsulosin

I had previous bouts of Vertigo, possible 1 case a year. I was on tamsulosin for 30 days and had 3 cases of vertigo, but didn't put 2 and 2 together. Went off of drug for 2 weeks and went back on it. I took 1 pill and set off my Vertigo again. Has anyone else had similar problem?

No, nor aware that any friends on Tamulosin have experienced this either

I have been taking Tamsulosin for over three years now and have not experienced any sideffects apart from lack of ejaculate at times. Though I have also had mild vertigo attacks in past, I am unable to relate same to taking Tam.

It would be interesting to know if anyone has experienced any other long term side effects. I am slightly worried abt this since my GP tells me that I will need to keep taking Tam for BPH

Dizziness is one the side effects. These are some of the more common side effects:-

dizziness, drowsiness, weakness;

nausea, diarrhea;

headache, chest pain;

abnormal ejaculation, decreased amount of semen;

back pain;

blurred vision;

tooth problems;

fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms.

I always read the leaflet that comes with any drug so that I am aware of any possible adverse reaction so know to stop and go back to my GP.

I am careful which generic make of tamsulosin i get given by the pharmacy as one I have taken gives me a headache but two others I have had are OK.

I am 72 years of age.My problem started about 5 days ago with episodes of dizziness/spinning of the room while sleeping. I am on Tamsolusin since Sept. 2017. About 3 days ago I had a more severe episode lasting longer and associated with sweating, weakness, nausea, pounding heart beat. My BP was also elevated to some extent. As I live alone I was afraid of a heart attack or stroke. As a result I called EMT and was evaluated in ED. All investigations, including EKG, Labs., Head CT were OK. I was started on Meclizine and Zofran. Symptoms were milder till this AM (day 3 after ED visit), when again I had a more severe episode with dizziness, spinning of the room, sweating, weakness. I decided to stop Tamsolusin. I will follow in 2 to 3 weeks with a followup.

I had been on tamsulosin for some 10 years and it worked well for me and but in my 9th year of using it, I had an unexplained episode of dizziness  but didn't draw the connection at the time. I got checked out by a doctor but couldn't find any problems. It took over a week or two to disappear on its own accord and now wonder if it was the pills. I've had a HoLEP procedure now and so am not taking any pills at this time, Oh bliss!

Now it is more then 1 month. I had more investigations including a head MRI and carotid Doppler which showed age related changes which were considered NOT to cause the vertigo. Since stopped Tamsulosin  no more episodes of vertigo. As a result I have to conclude that my vertigo was caused by this medication.
